Warning: Latest "Computer Problem" Pop-Ups are Viruses!

We received the following notice from our IT folks at work, so we thought we'd pass this along to ensure that you don't click on these fake pop-up ads that may appear on your computer. They contain viruses!

If you receive a pop-up message stating your computer has a problem (e.g., virus, your computer is infected, FakeAV, etc.) and you need to “call Tech Support Immediately,” please do not respond. These are bogus malicious social engineering attempts.

These pop-ups often occur as a result of browsing legitimate websites, compromised with malware, which install these unwanted pop-ups.

WHAT TO DO: Do NOT call phone numbers provided in a pop-up displayed on your computer or respond to these notifications in any way.

Close the pop-up by clicking on the small “x” which is usually in the upper right corner of the pop-up.  Do not click on the “OK” button, as it may install more malware.
