I recently read a paperback novel from 1931 of the mysterious hero known as "The Shadow." - most people know him from old radio programs "The Shadow Knows..." He also had comic book lines from DC and other comics companies, though. The novel I read was enjoyable and mysterious as the Shadow and those who work for him are- and you can appreciate the descriptions of things as they were in the 1930s when the novel was written.
The Shadow rarely makes a known appearance, but disguises himself as others and appears in many scenes as a large shadow on a wall. Worth a read!
ABOUT THE BOOK ITSELF: The Living Shadow was the first pulp novel to feature The Shadow.
Written by Walter B. Gibson, it was submitted for publication as Murder
in the Next Room on January 23, 1931, and published as "The Living
Shadow" in the April 1, 1931 issue of The Shadow Magazine..
ABOUT THE STORY: The coin that meant death - or instant riches! Assisted by the fast
legwork of young Harry Vincent and the efficient brain of Claude
Fellows, the Shadow solves a series of seemingly unrelated murders and
unmasks a ruthless arch villain. First episode of this legendary series
