Visited Exhibit: Costumes of Downton Abbey: Part 3: Matthew and Mary's Engagement

A very touching exhibit!

In Part 3 of the Downton Abbey Costume Exhibit, we'll look at Matthew and Mary's Engagement outfits.

The Downton costume exhibition is from the television series Downton Abbey. The exhibit is currently at the Winterthur estate in Delaware. We got to visit it over the weekend of March 22-23 with our friend Cristina.

THE BEST MOMENT -  Matthew's proposal to Mary was one of the most touching moments in the series (in our opinion). He and Mary were standing outside of the house at night, while snow flurries were falling when Matthew dropped to one knee and proposed.

THE EXHIBIT - The exhibit consists of the dress that Mary wore and the tux that Matthew wore when he proposed. In the background, the scene of the proposal played over and over on video. It was really touching.

Great Exhibit!
According to Downtonabbeywikia.com: Around January 3, 1920, Matthew asks Mary, "will you stay, if I ask you to?" Mary is worried Matthew will bring up the "Kemal incident" and won't be able to get how he betrayed Lavinia out of his head. Matthew assures her that "he has lived his life, and she has lived hers, and now it is time to live them together." Mary is stunned, and Matthew gets down on his knee to propose again, as Lady Mary happily accepts, and Matthew scoops her up to hug her in the snow.
