As a comic book fan, I love the DC Showcase Black and White Trade Paperback collections from the late 2000s. Why they stopped publishing these is beyond me, and it's tragic. These are GREAT collections of reprints, containing up to 500 pages of comics. Recently I found the DC Showcase trade paperback of the 1980s "Blue Beetle" series. I had never read it before, and really enjoyed it. The series, featuring the Ted Kord version of Blue Beetle, ran for 24 issues before ending, and this 580 page special volume contains all 24 comics, plus and Origins comic. The writer was Len Wein, who is a famous writer in the industry and has always been great. The artwork was also wonderful. If you're a comic book fan, this is a MUST READ (note- it's out of print). 5 of 5 stars!
ABOUT THIS BOOK: This value-priced title collects the entire 24-issue run of BLUE BEETLE from the 1980s, including the Beetle's battles against DC Universe villains Chronos and Dr. Alchemy. Includes appearances by The Question and the Teen Titans.
A RE-IMAGINED SUPERHERO - In the 2000s, a NEW Blue Beetle character was introduced (and is featured in the recent film) who has taken the mantle of the superhero, and has a vastly different costume (alien technology). The new character is a teenager named Jamie Reyes. I'm not as much a fan of the tech side of the new character, although I like the character of Jamie. -
