We just watched "The Spirit" on DVD and it was B- for me. This is a movie about a 1930s comic book superhero, formerly a police officer, that died in action. He was resurrected by an experiment and can't be killed again. He took on the superhero identity of the Spirit.
The director used black and white cinematography to create a dark, mysterious city. Only the Spirit's tie was red (it made for interesting visuals).
The thing that saved it was the actor's muscular hairy chest, which was visible only twice, for a total of 1 minute, sadly. He needed to be shirtless for an hour, and THEN I would've given the movie an "A." I thought it was a little too artistic, and there wasn't enough of a storyline in it until we got more than halfway through the movie to the Spirit's Origin. Still worth watching - just be patient.
