In late June, our good friends, Tracey, Rob and their son Jordan visited the area for a couple of days, and we enjoyed showing them around places like the Counting House (which you read about earlier this month). Today's blog explores the best-ever breakfast place, and a scenic river between states.
BEST BREAKFAST EVER - One of the cool places we visited was a breakfast/lunch restaurant called "Breakfast Station 319" in Somersworth, NH. It was the waiting room for the former passenger train line that came through Somersworth, New Hampshire. The train tracks that run past the former station are still used, but only for freight, not for passengers.
ABOUT THE RAILROAD TRACKS - Today there is no rail passenger service from Somersworth, but the tracks that were laid in the 1840s are still in use. They have been updated to take today's larger freight loads and that cargo takes the shape of sand and gravel from Ossipee down to Boston. Since 1986, the tracks have been owned and maintained by the New Hampshire Northcoast Corporation, (NHN) and freight trains are heard daily blowing their whistles as they approach the nearby crossing.
THE STATE BORDER - The Salmon Falls River acts as the border between the states of New Hampshire to the west and Maine to the east. It lies between Somersworth, NH and Berwick, ME. So, Jordan decided to take some pictures with his parents on both sides of the line, and he captured a stunning view of the river, too .
