Historic Londontown, Md. Part 1: An Abandoned Colonial Port Town

Rob and Tom at Londontown
Recently we learned of an abandoned town along Maryland's Chesapeake Bay called "Londontown." It turns out that this town lived for about 100 years and thrived as a  colonial seaport founded on the South River in 1683. The port was popular with trade to England, Africa and the Caribbean. It's now an active archaeological dig and reconstruction!
The historic site is called "Historic London Town and Gardens."

WHAT DID WE FIND THERE?
It's a great walk into the past to visit a town that thrived for about 100 years and faded away. The Historic attraction is located at 839 Londontown Rd, Edgewater, MD 21037. There are several buildings that have been reconstructed surrounding the area around a brick mansion that still stands today. It's where the original town stood. There's also a great visitors center with a fantastic museum that gives the full history of the town. There's also an archeaological research center on the grounds, a large garden to walk through and a nice view of the South River. More information: http://www.historiclondontown.org/

The park is owned by Anne Arundel County and managed by the London Town Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation.
