World's longest sea bridge Opened in China!

Part of the world's longest steel bridge
Because we like architecture and engineering, we thought we'd tell you about a brand new bridge this is the longest in the world. It just opened in October 2018!

BBC News reported on Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, the world's longest sea bridge opened on Oct. 23- it spans 55 kilometer (34 miles) and connects the cities of Hong Kong and Macau as well as the mainland city of Zhuhai.

It is the world's longest steel bridge–tunnel system, which consists of a series of three cable-stayed bridges and one undersea tunnel, as well as 2 artificial islands. It spans the Lingdingyang channel, which connects Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai, three major cities on the Pearl River Delta.

It took six years of planning, eight years of work, a 6.7 kilometer (4.1 mile) tunnel to allow ships to pass, a 625-meter (2,051 foot) artificial island - even if that in itself is impressive. It will help transform what's being called the Greater Bay area into what China hopes will become a huge economic hub.

It will slash travel times between the cities, which will make it easier to transport goods to mainlad China from Hong Kong's airport, the world's busiest cargo airport.
