As a coffee drinker and a meteorologist, I'm (Rob) all about scientific coffee studies. Recently our friend Jacquie sent us the latest study that says "Black coffee (without sugars of any kind) promotes weight loss, through increasing metabolism." I can vouch for that. I drink about 8-10 cups a day.
THE NETHERLANDS STUDY
Scientists in the Netherlands believe the best way to enjoy that morning cup of java and lose weight is to drink it black (without any sweeteners).
WAKE UP AND DRINK UP! A new study from the Department of Human Nutrition in the Netherlands claims that drinking black coffee -- immediately after waking will boost metabolism.
In a scientific journal researches wrote that coffee consumption increases metabolic rates for roughly three hours, which allows people to burn on average an extra 150 calories.
THE KEY - The key is to add no sugar, cream or milk substitutes which work against weight loss efforts. But, researchers say if you struggle with black coffee a good alternative is cashew milk.
OTHER STUDIES - Coffee may actually be good for your health, potentially lowering your
risk for dementia, stroke and some types of cancer, as well as improving
your memory and concentration. It may also affect your metabolism, but
it's more likely to increase it than decrease it, especially if you
drink caffeinated coffee. However, coffee can have a few downsides if
you drink too much or are sensitive to caffeine, so don't overdo it.
