Hero/Good Person of the Week: Mumbai, India Railway Worker Save Child from Oncoming Train

This week's hero/good person is a man named Mayur Shelkhe from Mumbai, India. He is an employee of the railroad there, and noticed a young child walking too close to the edge of the station platform. The boy fell onto the train tracks just as a train began approach to the station!  Mayur ran to the boy and was able to save him (and himself) from being hit by the train. This week's blog has a photo of the sequence and a video.

In a video that went viral on social media, a boy can be seen walking on the train platform with his parent. As he walks across to the edge of the concrete platform, he accidentally falls into the railway tracks. As a train approached from the distance, the child can be seen struggling to get back up from the tracks. A man then suddenly comes to his rescue. The man runs down the track from the other end and lifts the boy and put him back onto the platform before the train passes.

The man, identified as Mayur Shelkhe is a railway pointsman at Mumbai's Vangani Railway Station. Ministry of Railways thanked the man for displaying exemplary courage. "He risked his life to save the life of the child. We salute his exemplary courage & utmost devotion to the duty", the Ministry of Railways said in a tweet.

Ministry of Railways @RailMinIndia Tweeted: At Vangani station of Central Railway, Pointsman Mr. Mayur Shelkhe saved the life of a child just in the nick of the time. He risked his life to save the life of the child. We salute his exemplary courage & utmost devotion to the duty.
