Cozy mysteries are some of my favorite things to read and one of my all-time favorite series combines a mystery with the paranormal- a Ghost of a Private Investigator from the 1940s who was murdered in a bookstore in Rhode Island, and who can be seen and heard by the new book shop owner in the 2020s. Together they solve mysteries.
I have read every book in this "Haunted Bookshop Mystery" series and love, love, love them all. The "Ghost and the Stolen Tears" was no exception. Because of the ghostly P.I., Jack Shepherd, often one of his cases from the 1940s either ties into a murder in present day that Penelope, the book shop owner finds herself in the middle of, or the ghost gives Pen advice to help solve the case.
The books are filled with great characters, and in this story, Seymour the mailman and Brainert the teacher help Pen out when a trailer-living nomad who worked for Pen's shop and suddenly disappears after an expensive and cursed? piece of historic jewelry goes missing. The characters are great and this mystery in a mystery involves a history mystery with a case from Jack in the 1940s, too. Truly a 5 of 5 star book.- Rob
