Must Read: The Race Awakening of 2020: 6- Step Guide for Moving Forward

We all need a better awareness of racial inequality in our society and how we can do to change that.  I highly recommend reading  The Race Awakening of 2020: 6- Step Guide for Moving Forward" by Dr. Marshall Shepherd.  It's a short book that you can read quickly and will leave a lasting impression and give you guidelines to make a positive change.
Dr. Shepherd is a friend and colleague of mine and one of the most amazing men you'll ever meet. I was fortunate to work with him personally for many years. He's a meteorologist, university professor, served as president of the American Meteorological Society and I have always thought of him as my personal meteorologist superhero (I love superheroes). As I read his book, his compassion for others and calming voice or reason came through,  as they will when you read it.
In the book he shares his personal experiences from his childhood to adulthood and his observations and interactions. The book provides examples of how well-intentioned people can contribute to racism without even knowing they have done so. It was interesting, enlightening and helpful to read about cognitive dissonance and confirmation bias.
The book also contains easy to understand analogies and a checklist of actionable items that everyone can do in our daily lives to make things change for the better.
ABOUT THE BOOK: An inflection point in society may have finally been reached. Meaningful discussions are being had about race. Marshall Shepherd offers 6 practical steps that we can all do to move the needle beyond social media activism, anger, apologies, and superficial activities. Shepherd uses a series of events that played out in the Spring 2020 and his own personal journey as a black male to advance meaningful actions that you can do right now in your homes, local communities and beyond.
