- Wondering how members of the military feel about this...
1) DOD Could Pull From Over 400 Projects To Fund Border Wall
There are hundreds of pending military construction projects that could potentially be tapped to help provide the billions of dollars in border wall funding required under President Donald Trump’s recent emergency declaration, according to a newly released congressional list.
- Not good news for the economy
2) In Blow to Trump, America’s Trade Deficit in Goods Hits Record $891 Billion
NY Times: March 6, 2019
WASHINGTON — America’s trade deficit in goods with the rest of the world rose to its highest level in history last year as the United States imported a record number of products, including from China, widening the deficit to $891.3 billion and delivering a setback to President Trump’s goal of narrowing that gap.
The increase was driven by some factors outside Mr. Trump’s control, like a global economic slowdown and the relative strength of the United States dollar, both of which weakened overseas demand for American goods. But the widening gap was also exacerbated by Mr. Trump’s $1.5 trillion tax cut, which has been largely financed by government borrowing, and the trade war he escalated last year. It is a case of textbook economics catching up with some of Mr. Trump’s unorthodox economic policies. Economists have long warned that Mr. Trump’s tax cuts would ultimately exacerbate a trade deficit he has vowed to reduce, as Americans, flush with extra cash, bought more imported goods.
- Great news for Internet Users, if the Democrats can pass this!
3) Democrats Float New Bill To Revive Net Neutrality!
Wired March 7, 2019
Democrats in the House and Senate introduced a bill on Wednesday that would restore Obama-era net neutrality
rules, a response to a December 2017 vote by the Federal Communications
Commission that basically gutted the regulations that were put in place
by the Democrat-controlled FCC in 2015. WHY NET NEUTRALITY IS NEEDED: The 2017 vote had repealed the
order that prohibited blocking, throttling, or otherwise discriminating
against lawful content, and opened the door for internet service
providers to block or throttle content at their own discretion. Today's
bill, proposed by Senator Edward Markey (D–Massachusetts) and
Representative Mike Doyle (D–Pennsylvania), would restore the 2015
protections and would bar the FCC from repealing the rules again.
