Our niece Myrtle (Jeff's Beagle-Chihuahua mix) whom we love to have visit us - and has stayed with us many times over the years, had to have a dental treatment, and we got to help out.
Myrtle's dad recently got a new job and it was difficult to secure time off, and since I'm retiring in a couple of months and have some vacation days to burn it was no problem to drive up and get her and take her to her appointment. PHOTO: Myrtle's expression when I told her we were going to the dentist!
When I picked her up, she had taken some trazodone to make her sleepy before the procedure and the face she gave me when I put her in the truck cracked me up! (PHOTO: Myrtle was zonked on the drive home)LONG DAY FOR MYRTLE - We arrived at the Dentist's office at 8am. But Myrtle didn't get finished until 5pm. It must have been stressful for her! Jeff and I met at the dentist's office and the dentist went over the medications, etc. for her.
We were taking Myrtle back to our house for a couple days as Jeff's work schedule prevented him from watching her 24/7 and we telework. - It's an important lesson when your dog has dental surgery, to be able to keep an eye on them.
Myrtle wore the "Elizabethan collar/cone" for the first day, but didn't bother her mouth, so she got to leave it behind quickly.
BY DAY 2- Myrtle was eating wet food, and was back to herself, growling at our dog, Dash (she never liked Dash)... so we knew she was mending fast !
She even went on a couple of short backyard forest walks, so she was back in the swing of things!
Anytime we can have Myrtle visit, we'll take her! She's adorable.
