Rob's Cleveland Trip #2: "A Christmas Story" Department Store & Terminal Tower

In this blog about my trip to Cleveland, I took a city tour that provided great info and history about the downtown area. You'll learn about Terminal Tower and the building that was in the film "A Christmas Story."

THE CHRISTMAS STORY" DEPARTMENT STORE -You may recognize the building at 100 Public Square, Cleveland. It's now called "Jack Casino": but it was the location of the Highbees department store in the movie "A Christmas Story." The building was said to be featured in three pivotal scenes in the movie.

SIDE NOTE - You can also visit the house associated with the family in "A Christmas Story." ;

TERMINAL TOWER - This building is 52 stories and has an observation deck located on Public Square in Downtown Cleveland. It is often lit up in various colors. Built during the skyscraper boom of the 1920s and 1930s, it was the second-tallest building in the world when it was completed. You can ride up to the observation deck of Terminal Tower to get a great view of the city. The ride to the Terminal Tower Observation deck requires two separate elevator rides. In the first elevator, you'll ride up to the 32nd floor in about a minute. You'll exit to the left, and follow signs for the second bank of elevators, where you'll ride another up to the 42nd floor!

CONSTRUCTION OF THE TOWER - For $179 million, they started construction on the Terminal Tower in 1926. Construction continued for a mere few years... and when the tower was finally dedicated on June 28, 1930.
