Watched "The Suicide Squad" (2) Film on DVD: Grade "B"

DC Comics issued the second film in the "Suicide Squad" movie a year ago in 2021, and after looking for it on Netflix and Amazon Prime, and even Redbox, and not finding it, I finally bought it for $9.99. This past weekend, we watched it... Here's what we thought.

We saw the first Suicide Squad movie and really liked it. In fact, since then, I had been reading and collecting the comic book series (until DC Comics decided to stupidly cancel it in early 2022). In this movie, there s almost a completely different set of characters. The premise is that Task Force X or the "Suicide Squad" is called to do top secret government tasks that make them risk their own lives. They do them to get a lesser sentence and there is a bomb planted in their skulls to ensure they don't run.

This movie was interesting and good about to the half way point. Harley Quinn returned, and she's always a favorite. So did Rick Flag, whom we liked, and Amanda Waller, who we liked to hate. New characters included Ratcatcher 2- a good character; Peacemaker- a bully, Bloodsport, an assassin, The Polka Dot Man - whom was a bizarre character, and King Shark a humanoid Shark. -  There was humor interspersed throughout, mostly in the first half before things got weird.

The villain was "Starro the Conqueror" from the very first appearance of the Justice League of America comic book in the 1960s - and I thought it a weird choice for a villain.. but it was entertaining. I must be getting old though, because there was way too much violence and killing to make me want to see it again.  That said, I give it a "B" because the characters were engaging, and the first half of the story was good...
