Today, Holyrood Palace is the official residence of the Queen of
England and Prince of Wales and is a setting for State ceremonies and
official entertaining. According to Royal.gov.UK, Holyrood was founded
as a monastery in 1128. It's located at the
end of the Royal Mile. Previously it was a hunting retreat for one of
the early kings. Mary, Queen of Scots, that we met at Edinburgh Castle,
also lived there between 1561 and 1567. She actually turned this hunting
retreat into a palace. Successive kings and queens
have made the Palace of Holyrood House the premier royal residence in
Scotland.
SHORT VIDEO- We weren't allowed to
take photos inside the palace, so we shot this brief introductory video
from the front of the building to give you a look.

The ghost of the captain I saw |
It was here that I (Rob) saw the ghost of a middle-aged man with salt and pepper hair, dark eyebrows and dark eyelashes standing in the room! The man told me that he was / is a captain of the guard there and was responsible for defending the castle.
I'm unsure if he died in the castle or if he died outside in battle. There were a lot of people around, and it was difficult to focus on what he was saying, but his face was very, very clear to me. Here's a drawing of the Captain that I did immediately after seeing him in the Queen's Ante-Chamber.
