IDIOTS of the Week: Arkansas becoming 1st state to sever ties with PBS

Idiots always follow other idiots. This week's Idiots are the eight-member Republican Arkansas Educational Television Commission, all appointed by their corrupt, idiotic governor and their decision to sever ties with PBS.

What does it mean?  No more educational television for Arkansans. This happened after the felon stopped funding educational television.  Why? Uneducated people won't understand that they are being taken advantage of and won't have the knowledge to do anything about the corruption. Here's the story.

Arkansas becoming 1st state to sever ties with PBS, effective July 1

 December 11, 2025, AP News

LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas (AP) — The commission that oversees public television in Arkansas voted Thursday to sever ties with PBS, making it the first state to end its contract with the broadcast giant that provides popular television programs such as “Sesame Street,” “Nova” and “Antiques Roadshow.”

The eight-member Arkansas Educational Television Commission, made up entirely of appointees of the governor, announced in a news release Thursday that it planned to disaffiliate from PBS effective July 1, citing annual membership dues of about $2.5 million it described as “not feasible.” The release also cited the unexpected loss of about that same amount of federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which was targeted for closure earlier this year and defunded by Congress.

PBS Arkansas is rebranding itself as Arkansas TV and will provide more local content, the agency’s Executive Director and CEO Carlton Wing said in a statement. Wing, a former Republican state representative, took the helm of the agency in September.

“Public television in Arkansas is not going away,” Wing said. “In fact, we invite you to join our vision for an increased focus on local programming, continuing to safeguard Arkansans in times of emergency and supporting our K-12 educators and students.”

PBS confirmed in an email Thursday that Arkansas is the first state to definitively sever ties with the broadcaster. Alabama considered similar action last month, but opted to continue paying its contract with PBS after public backlash from viewers and donors.

“The commission’s decision to drop PBS membership is a blow to Arkansans who will lose free, over the air access to quality PBS programming they know and love,” a PBS spokesperson wrote in an email to The Associated Press.

The demise of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, is a direct result of President Donald Trump’s targeting of public media, which he has repeatedly said is spreading political and cultural views antithetical to those the United States should be espousing. The closure is expected to have a profound impact on the journalistic and cultural landscape — in particular, public radio and TV stations in small communities nationwide.

Arkansas House Democratic Leader Rep. Andrew Collins called the demise of PBS in Arkansas sad. “It’s certainly a loss for Arkansas families who value the programming of PBS,” he said.

CPB helps fund both PBS and NPR, but most of its funding is distributed to more than 1,500 local public radio and television stations around the country.

Idiots of the Week: Universities Paying a Coaches Millions a Year

This week's Idiots are Universities who pay coaches ridiculous salaries and the coaches who accept them with no consideration of the affordability of schools to students. So many people are trying to afford college and there's a big reason why they can't - Sports Coach Salaries. Recently, Bill Belichick was hired by the University North Carolina at a salary of $50 MILLION a year! Isn't $500,000 enough? WTH? Besides, he's 72. Why does he need that ridiculous amount of money at his age? I don't care how "great" he is (yeah, I know he coached Superbowl winners 6 times). $50 million is ridiculous. - If he cared about the University, OR had one tiny ounce of consideration for the affordability of colleges, he would say "That's ridiculous." But he, like many other College coaches, don't care about students. It's GREED. Isn't there any way to convince Universities to stop paying these ridiculous salaries and make school affordable again?

Here are excerpts from the Boston Globe story

Bill Belichick joining UNC wasn’t a surprising choice. It was his only choice.
“College kind of came to me. I didn’t necessarily seek it out.”

After spending nearly half a century patrolling NFL sidelines, the 72-year-old Belichick is moving on from the league he once reigned over in search of an exciting new challenge.

“I always wanted to coach in college football,” Belichick told reporters. “It just never really worked out. I had some good years in the NFL, so that was OK. This is really kind of a dream come true.”

(Image; Outrageous college coach salaries 10 YEARS AGO in 2014! Credit: Business Insider)
Sitting just 15 wins away from the NFL’s all-time coaching wins record, immersing himself in an evolving collegiate environment with NIL and the transfer portal was probably far from the priority for Belichick entering 2025.

For a football mind fixated on the results, surpassing Don Shula’s 347 career victories stood as one of the few peaks that Belichick has yet to summit.

But with no NFL team opting to toss him a rope, Belichick relented — traversing the safer path at the collegiate level.

Idiots of the Week: 2 Women Put Mealworms in DNC Food at the Convention

This weekend's idiots are just vicious, hateful women who were seen dropping mealworms on food during a Democratic National Convention breakfast, causing one person to get very sick. Fortunately, others noticed them and didn't eat the food. But what in the hell kind of deplorable, evil, twisted people do things like that? Obviously it's people who support Trump. This is not what Americans should be. Here's the story.

Mealworms possibly dropped on tables at Chicago hotel hosting DNC delegates breakfast

Associated Press August 22, 2024

CHICAGO (AP) — Mealworms may have sickened at least one person at a Chicago hotel event earlier this week during the Democratic National Convention, the city’s police superintendent said Thursday.

While the investigation by Chicago police and the FBI continues, Chicago Police Superintendent Larry Snelling said clues point toward people putting mealworms on tables.

“I’m not sure that those were maggots,” Snelling said Thursday when asked about the possibility of insects dropped on various tables. “There was sawdust, so they were probably mealworms. They look the same. But that’s still under investigation.”

Mealworms are common insects that have wormlike, yellow-to-brown colored bodies. They are the larval form of the mealworm beetle. Maggots are similar in appearance, but soft-bodied with white to transparent color. They are the larval stage of flies.

Multiple suspects, all women, entered the Fairmont Chicago, which was hosting a breakfast for delegates at the DNC and began placing “unknown objects” onto tables with food before leaving the area at around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Indiana delegate Karen Tallian, a retired state senator, said two women hiding in a bathroom "ran out and threw maggots into the breakfast buffet," per USA Today.

One person who ingested the food was treated by medical personnel and released at the scene, according to Chicago police.

Idiots of the Week: FL and Texas Ship Immigrants to Democratic States

The cruelty and inhumanity is beyond belief. The Republican Governors of Florida and Texas rounded up immigrants who have crossed into the country and flew or bused them to Massachusetts and Washington, D.C. ** These are PEOPLE who don't even speak English and are being used by the sick, twisted, Heartless- Republicans who are treating these people (who fled horrible conditions of their countries) like dead objects. If you think this is acceptable, there's no heart or soul in you. At least the Democratic states knew how to come together and welcome and shelter them. Texas and Florida- You are garbage. (Yes, I'm disgusted). Here's the story.

‘It’s Just Cruel’: White House Blasts GOP For Sending Migrants To Democratic Cities

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent two planes of migrants to Martha's Vineyard this week, following similar moves by other Republican leaders.

Nick Visser Sep 15, 2022, Huff post

The White House said recent efforts by Republican governors to send migrants to Democratic cities are “disrespectful to humanity,” saying the tactics are “political stunts” made at the expense of vulnerable communities.

“That’s not now you treat people, that is inhumane,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing on Thursday. “Yes, is there more work to be done? Yes, absolutely. But there is a process in place.”

“And remember, these are people who are fleeing communism, who are fleeing hardship,” she added.

The condemnation comes amid a renewed surge by some Republicans to move immigrants to Democratic enclaves in protest of the Biden administration’s border policies.

(Idiots: TX Gov Abbott (left), FL Gov DeSantis (R)

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) flew two planes of migrants from the state to Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts on Wednesday, a tactic other Republican officials have used to send immigrants to so-called “sanctuary” cities. Such regions have protections in place for undocumented migrants that limit state involvement with federal authorities and offer temporary protection from detention or deportation.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) made a similar move this week, sending two buses of migrants to the residence of Vice President Kamala Harris in Washington, D.C.

Jean-Pierre said the efforts were simply political stunts meant to create “chaos” and “confusion,” calling efforts to use migrants as political pawns “shameful, reckless and just plain wrong.” She pointed to reports that some had been promised expedited work papers in Boston if they boarded the plane from Florida this week, only to be left in Massachusetts.

“It doesn’t afford them any dignity, what they’re doing, when you’re abandoning families and children in a place where they were told they were going to get housing in a place where they were told they were going to get jobs,” she said. “It is just cruel.”

Residents of the Martha’s Vineyard banded together to take in the families who appeared on Wednesday.

“Our island jumped into action putting together 50 beds, giving everyone a good meal, providing a play area for the children, making sure people have the healthcare and support they need,” state Rep. Dylan Fernandes, a Democrat representing Martha’s Vineyard, wrote on Twitter. “We are a community that comes together to support immigrants.”

Miami Herald: Republicans have a white-supremacy problem.

For those who don't watch the news, or see what their congresspeople are doing outside of Capitol Hill, a couple of them decided to appear at, speak at, and support a White Supremacy Conference in Florida in February. The Miami Herald noted that the Republican party now seems to embrace white nationalists, because the party isn't doing anything to stop this "support." Not only white nationalists- these republicans also seem to support Putin (as Trump does). Remember this in November when you vote; The Republican Party supports White Nationalists and Putin. Doesn't sound good, does it? Here's the Miami Herald editorial...

EDITORIALS

Republicans have a white-supremacy problem. But they don’t seem to think they do

A white nationalist conference in Orlando last weekend featured two Republican members of the U.S. Congress. That should shock us. And the GOP should rush to condemn it. But did it? Well, sort of.

The guy running the event, America First leader Nick Fuentes, is a white supremacist, according to the Anti-Defamation League, and a Putin enthusiast. Yet Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, smiling and enthusiastic, took the stage as the star attraction after he introduced her. Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona, who attended the same conference last year, appeared by video. Fuentes, in a speech to the crowd, noted that Vladimir Putin had been compared to Hitler, and then laughed and added: “They say it’s not a good thing.“ Then he asked for a round of applause for Russia.

This happened just down the road from a different grievance-filled, right-wing conference also held in Orlando last weekend: the Conservative Political Action Conference, known as CPAC. The leaders of the Republican Party were there, including Donald Trump. Where was the clear and unequivocal rejection of the America First Political Action Conference and all it stands for? A handful of Republicans spoke out. Rep. Liz Cheney, of Wyoming, tweeted that the “silence by Republican Party leaders is deafening and enabling. All Americans should renounce this garbage and reject the Putin wing of the GOP now.”

‘BIZARRO WORLD’

Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger — who, like Cheney, has been marginalized by Republicans for criticizing Trump — tweeted that, “If this was not bizarro world” Greene should be the one “censured and excommunicated from the GOP.” Utah Sen. Mitt Romney agreed with Cheney in a TV appearance Sunday on CNN, saying “There’s no place in either political party for this white nationalism or racism. It’s simply wrong.”

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Greene of “playing footsie” with Fuentes’ “splinter group,” saying that, ”Associating with anti-Semitic neo-Nazis is not consistent with the conservative values I’ve defended for decades.” Ronna McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, addressed the issue, though not exactly head-on or by name: “White supremacy, neo-Nazism, hate speech and bigotry are disgusting and do not have a home in the Republican Party,” she told the Washington Post.

Greene, who also attended CPAC, claimed later that she didn’t know what Fuentes’ group stood for when she spoke at the event. She defended her attendance by saying she wanted to reach a young audience. She even threw in a Putin-is-bad comment.

The Republican Party has a white-supremacy problem. Every time a Gosar or a disingenuous Greene attends an event like the America First conference, it gains a little more of a foothold. That “deafening” silence from those of whom we expect better says that the party is OK with extremists’ bigotry. And all the tweets in the world don’t do a thing to fix it.

Idiots of the Week: 49% Of Florida Residents (Anti-vaxxers, non-maskers) and FL Governor

Sorry, Florida, but about half  of the residents (well, 49%)  don't seem to comprehend science, don't want to get vaccinated, don't care about others, over-taxed hospitals and have spiked infection and death rates for COVID19 victims. Those idiots, like in this photo from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Aug. 23rd, are teaching their kids to be just as stupid.

According to the CDC, overall, 10,961,995 people or 51.04% of Florida's population have been fully vaccinated. Doses delivered and administered in Florida as of August 20, 2021.

SIMPLY PUT- Get a FREE Vaccine, or pay $500,000 in Hospital bills. DUH.

So,  About 49% of Florida Residents qualify as "Idiots of the Week." Their governor, Ron DeSantis is the Biggest Florida Idiot for not mandating masks, for not promoting vaccines, for not promoting safety. He is the Ultimate "Florida Man."

Idiots of the Week: The Vatican; Protests Against Italy's Anti-LGBTQ and Disabilities Discrimination Bill

There's nothing like shouting you are a bunch of intolerant bigots, as using a Pulpit to do it, and one that gives you a front row seat to the world of followers. Well, the Vatican and Catholic Church did just that. They're protesting a bill in Italy that would punish discrimination and incitement to violence against the LGBT community, as well as women and people with disabilities.   Here's the story of This Week's Idiots, (courtesy of the BBC News):

Vatican protests against 'unprecedented' Italian bill on homophobia

The Vatican has protested to Italy over a bill on homophobia currently passing through parliament.

The Zan bill would punish discrimination and incitement to violence against the LGBT community, as well as women and people with disabilities.

The Vatican argues the bill would curb religious freedoms secured in a treaty.

Under current Roman Catholic doctrine, gay relationships are referred to as "deviant behaviour".

Advocates of the bill say it has safeguards to ensure religious freedoms.

The Zan bill, named after LGBT activist and politician Alessandro Zan, was passed by the lower house of parliament in November, and now needs to pass the Senate.

It would add legal protections for women and people who are LGBT or disabled. Those found guilty of hate crimes or discrimination against these groups could face up to four years in prison.

What are the Vatican's objections?

The Vatican informally delivered a letter to Italy's ambassador on 17 June, protesting against the proposed law.

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni told AFP news agency the bill was "an unprecedented act in the history of relations" between Italy and the Vatican. The Vatican believes it would violate the Lateran Treaty, signed by the two in 1929, which recognised Vatican City as an independent state.

According to Il Corriere newspaper, the Church has objected to Catholic schools not being exempted from a proposed national day against homophobia and transphobia, to be held on 17 May.

Alessandro ZanIMAGE COPYRIGHTREUTERS
image captionAlessandro Zan, sponsor of the proposed law, has insisted it would not lead to religious censorship

It has also expressed concern that Catholics could face legal action for expressing their opinions on LGBT issues.

Matteo Salvini, the leader of far-right Northern League, said his party was aligned with the Church's stance.

Alessandro Zan, who is sponsoring the bill, has rebuffed accusations that it would bring censorship.

"The text [of the law] does not restrict in any way freedom of expression or religious freedom. And it respects the autonomy of all schools," he tweeted.

Since his election in 2013, Pope Francis has adopted a more liberal stance towards homosexuality.

In a documentary last year, he said same-sex couples should be allowed to have "civil unions".

But Pope Francis has previously reiterated the Church's position that homosexuality is a sin. In 2018, he also said that he was "worried" about homosexuality in the clergy, calling it "a serious matter."

A Collection of Idiots of the Week : from Conspiracy Theory Spreaders, to Non-Vaccinators, to People who Take Credit for Doing No Good

This month is full of idiots, so I had to collect them in one posting. Idiot #1 is an Christian Broadcasting channel that continually puts out DUMB conspiracy theories (one of our neighbors even repeated and believes it, sadly) that said "the vaccine has nanochips to control people."  Idiot #2 is a U.S. Politician who voted AGAINST COVID relief and has promoted it to his constituents as something HE passed. Finally Idiot #3 is an entire group, who because of their politics refused to get vaccinated against the Deadly COVID virus. Can't get much dumber than that.  Here are the IDIOTS of the WEEK:

IDIOT #1:  LOVEWORLD CHRISTIAN BROADCASTING FINED FOR CLAIMING COVID  VACCINE HAS "NANOCHIPS" TO CONTROL PEOPLE

Ofcom in the UK has fined a Christian broadcaster £125,000 after it breached the rules by airing “inaccurate and potentially harmful claims about coronavirus”. Loveworld Television Network was found to have made the violation back in January after a 29-hour show titled The Global Day of Prayer featured sermons with “potentially harmful” claims about Covid-19 - including that the virus was “planned” and created by the “deep state” and vaccines were a “sinister” means of administering “nanochips” to control people. Ofcom had already ordered Loveworld not to repeat the programme and to broadcast a summary of its decision three times in a day, but has now issued the fine after concluding the breaches were “serious, repeated and reckless”. SOURCE- the UK Independent Newspaper

IDIOT #2:  GOP REP TOUTS STIMULUS FUNDS HE VOTED AGAINST

Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) sent a tweet touting some funds that community health centers in his district will be receiving — even though he voted against the American Rescue Plan, which made the funds possible. “You can’t have your cake and vote against it, too,” North Carolina Democratic Party Chair Bobbie Richardson said. ‌

IDIOTS #3: REPUBLICAN MEN NOT GETTING COVID SHOT

Even Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) urged fellow Republican men to get vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible. Recent polls show that Republican men are passing up the shots. "There's no good argument not to get the vaccination," McConnell said. [HuffPost] ‌

Idiots of the Week: 12 Republicans Who Denied to Honor Capitol Police - from Insurrection)

This week's IDIOT is actually a group that numbers 12. This week, the Police who defended the Capitol building in Washington, DC were honored this week by Congress, EXCEPT by 12 ungrateful and hateful IDIOTS of the WEEK Republicans. ONLY Republicans voted against honoring these brave men and women after they protected lives during the Capitol Insurrection. That political party used to say they were the "party of the police" and now the truth comes out. It's Disgusting. One of the 12 Idiots of the week is Maryland's Andy Harris. He and the other 11 Losers should be ashamed of themselves and should never get another police officer's support. Before I get to the story, here are the list of Idiots to make it easier:

A DOZEN IDIOTS:   Andy Harris of Maryland  Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia,  -Matt Gaetz of Florida - Thomas Massie of Kentucky - Louie Gohmert, a congressman from Texas - Andy Biggs of Arizona, - Andy Harris of Maryland, - Lance Gooden of Texas, - Michael Cloud of Texas, - Andrew Clyde of Georgia, - Greg Steube of Florida, - Bob Good of Virginia - John Rose of Tennessee.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 413-12 to award congressional gold medals to all members of Capitol force for their efforts on 6 January

Guardian Newspaper March 18, 2021

12 Republicans vote against honoring Capitol police for protecting Congress

A dozen Republicans voted against a resolution honoring US Capitol police for their efforts to protect members of Congress during the insurrection on 6 January.

The House voted 413-12 on Wednesday to award congressional gold medals, Congress’s “highest expression of national appreciation”, to all members of the Capitol police force.

The Republicans who opposed this honor included Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Matt Gaetz of Florida and Thomas Massie of Kentucky. They and other opposing members said they had problems with the text of the legislation.

Massie told reporters he disagreed with the terms “insurrection” and “temple” in the legislation.

The resolution said: “On January 6, 2021, a mob of insurrectionists forced its way into the US Capitol building and congressional office buildings and engaged in acts of vandalism, looting, and violently attacked Capitol police officers.”

It also named the three officers who responded to the attack and died shortly after – Capitol police officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood and Metropolitan police department officer Jeffrey Smith – and said seven other people died and more than 140 law enforcement officers were injured.

“The desecration of the US Capitol, which is the temple of our American democracy, and the violence targeting Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation’s history,” the bill said.

Louie Gohmert, a congressman from Texas, said in a statement that the text “does not honor anyone, but rather seeks to drive a narrative that isn’t substantiated by known facts”.

Gohmert separately circulated a competing bill to honor Capitol police that did not mention the 6 January attack, according to a copy obtained by Politico. His text also named the officers who died after the insurrection but did not specify the circumstances of their deaths, writing instead that they: “All passed in January 2021.”

The other Republicans who voted against the legislation were Andy Biggs of Arizona, Andy Harris of Maryland, Lance Gooden of Texas, Michael Cloud of Texas, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, Greg Steube of Florida, Bob Good of Virginia and John Rose of Tennessee.

All of the bill’s opponents, except for Massie, voted to object to state’s electoral votes in the presidential election in the hours after the insurrection.

Idiots in the News: 2 Bigots caught taking down Black Lives Matter sign in Minnesota

These conservatives just keep proving how hateful and bigoted they are, and they don't realize that there are cameras and video recorders that capture their stupidity. In this case, a woman in Minnesota who was apparently a big rep for Mary Kay cosmetics, and her husband, decided to go on private property and tear down a "Black Lives Matter" sign, because, well, they're bigots.
It wasn't the first time the sign was stolen, though, so the property owner put up a camera and bingo! When he posted the photo on Facebook, they were quickly identified. Of course, the Mary Kay car helped. Here's the story>

Couple caught taking down Black Lives Matter sign in northern Minnesota
Monday, July 20, 2020 by Hannah Jones in City Pages  News

As June rolled into July, Andy DeLisi, the owner of Big Bear Lodge out in Grand Marais, discovered the Black Lives Matter signs at the edge of his property had gone missing.

According to the Cook County Sheriff Deputy's report, one of the vandals wanted to "send a message" by tampering with the sign.
According to the Cook County Sheriff Deputy's report, one of the vandals wanted to "send a message" by tampering with the sign.

He says he was disappointed, if not entirely surprised, that whoever took his signs couldn't have "just rolled on by and left the sign alone. If everyone is about freedom of speech, then let it be so.”

The next time around, DeLisi planned ahead. He put out another sign – this one handmade, out of painted plywood – and set up a security camera. On Tuesday evening, the feed captured two people meddling with it, and a pale pink car parked nearby. The name emblazoned on the side of the vehicle was “Mary Kay.”

DeLisi has no idea whether they were the same folks that messed with his other signs, but they clearly didn’t think much of this one. He says they picked it up and dumped it in a nearby ditch.

The next day, he selected a few stills from the feed and called up the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

“Andrew told me he just wanted the people talked to about going on other people’s property and moving things that aren’t theirs,” a report by a Cook County deputy reads. A little research revealed that the pale pink cars are associated with high-up Mary Kay sales reps. Other than that, the department didn’t have much to go on.

But DeLisi also posted the photos on his Facebook page, where they blew up and got shared nearly 500 times by the end of the week – to say nothing of various reposts on Twitter. A few commenters said they recognized the pair as Tom and Linda Bergerson from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who happened to be staying at a nearby resort.

According to the report, the deputy found the pale pink car parked at the place in question and confirmed it belonged to a “Tom and Linda.” Then the deputy approached them for a quick chat.

“I told them I had photos of them moving a Black Lives Matter sign and asked what they were doing,” the report says.

We don’t really know for sure what they were doing. Calls to Linda’s work phone went unanswered, and Mary Kay didn’t respond to interview requests on whether the company was aware of what happened. (A few of those tweets about the incident had been directed at Mary Kay).

But the report says Linda told the deputy she’d gone to talk to DeLisi, but he hadn’t been there at the time, “so they moved the sign.”

“She told me she wanted to discuss the political subject and wanted to send a message,” the report says.

The deputy reportedly reminded Linda that the sign “was not her property” and therefore she should leave it alone or risk prosecution, and the couple allegedly agreed not to go back. The deputy reported back to DeLisi, and just like that, the case was pretty much closed.

Well, almost. Despite Linda reportedly wanting to “send a message,” it seemed the pair weren’t exactly pleased with their newfound attention. Later that afternoon, the report says, Tom called up the deputy and told him someone “from the radio” had called asking about the vandalized sign. He didn’t want to talk to the radio, he said.

“I told him people are very sensitive to this topic right now, and word spreads fast up here,” the deputy wrote. He advised him to call 911 if he had an emergency, but in the meantime, if he didn’t want to talk, he could block the numbers.

DeLisi says he hasn’t heard from Tom or Linda, and he’s not expecting to.

“We know there are folks that don’t necessarily agree with the sentiment [of Black Lives Matter], and we get a lot of travelers on the scenic byways,” he says. “But here, it seems, most of the folks are pretty solid.”

Idiots of the Week: Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected

This week's idiot is actually a HUGE body of idiots who are supposed to be getting an education to not be idiots. How Ironic.
They are  Tuscaloosa, Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected. Seems like there's absolutely no hope for these students to graduate. Even if they survive COVID19, it's likely some of their relatives will die from it after they infect their families.
Here's the story from ABC News on July 1, 2020:

Alabama students throwing 'COVID parties' to see who gets infected: Officials

July 1, 2020 ABC News

Students in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 have been attending parties in the city and surrounding area as part of a disturbing contest to see who can catch the virus first, a city council member told ABC News on Wednesday.

Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry said students have been organizing "COVID parties" as a game to intentionally infect each other with the contagion that has killed more than 127,000 people in the United States. She said she recently learned of the behavior and informed the city council of the parties occurring in the city.

She said the organizers of the parties are purposely inviting guests who have COVID-19.

"They put money in a pot and they try to get COVID. Whoever gets COVID first gets the pot. It makes no sense," McKinstry said. "They're intentionally doing it."

Tuscaloosa Fire Chief Randy Smith told the City Council on Tuesday that he has confirmed the students' careless behavior.

In a briefing to the City Council, Smith expressed concern that in recent weeks there have been parties held throughout the city and surrounding Tuscaloosa County, "where students, or kids, would come in with known positive," according to a video recording of the meeting obtained by ABC affiliate station WBMA in Birmingham.

"We thought that was kind of a rumor at first," Smith told the council members. "We did some research. Not only do the doctors' offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information."
In his presentation, Smith, who wore a face mask, did not say what is being done to curb the behavior or what schools the students were from. Tuscaloosa is the seventh-largest city in Alabama and home to The University of Alabama and several other colleges.

Just hours after Smith's briefing, the City Council unanimously passed an ordinance requiring people to wear face coverings when out in public.

Idiot of the Week: FedEx Employee Mocks George Floyd’s Death as Protesters Pass

There's no shortage of idiots, and they all seem to be supporting one person in particular. This past week in southern New Jersey a white, redneck, conservative idiot mocked peaceful protesters in a horrible, disgusting way.  Here's the story from the NBC Philadelphia:

FedEx Employee Mocks George Floyd’s Death as Protesters Pass
Source: Philadelphia.com June 10, 2020
A group of white men seen mocking George Floyd's death as Black Lives Matter protesters passed by included a Federal Express employee and a  corrections officer in South Jersey, officials confirmed to NBC10.

NBC10 later learned the man kneeling  on another man laying down along Delsea Drive as a group marched past in Franklin Township on Monday. is a FedEx employee. A NJ corrections officer was off to the side filming.

FedEx told Memphis, Tennessee, NBC affiliate WMC-TV late Tuesday that another person involved in the counter protest is no longer employed by the logistics company. FedEx said "we do not tolerate the kind of appalling and offensive behavior depicted in this video."

The NJ Department of Corrections said in a statement that one of the men involved was a corrections officer at Bayside State Prison. "We have been made aware that one of our officers from Bayside State Prison participated in the filming of a hateful and disappointing video that mocked the killing of George Floyd," an NJ Department of Corrections statement said. That person, who the statement did not identify, has been suspended and banned while the agency investigates.

The display sent shocked reactions through the crowd and on social media as clips racked up thousands of views.

The protesters, who had notified police of their route and were flanked by police SUVs, were moving down Delsea Drive when they passed a firewood business along the route, protesters told NBC10 and documented in social media videos.

The videos showed a group with Trump 2020 flags and a "thin blue line" flag, along with an "all lives matter" sign. You could hear shocked reactions as one man, whom NBC10 could not definitively identify, knelt on another man who lay face-down on the ground. The man kneeling was also seen shouting at the protesters.

"It automatically brought me to tears," organizer Daryan Fennal of Franklinville said. "The display yesterday showed me that racism is real, racism is alive, it's right next door to you."

Idiots of the Week: Fox News graphic refers to “3 Mexican countries.”

Screen capture from Fox News "Mexican Countries"
It's no surprise that Fox News would make "Idiot of the Week." In fact, they've earned that title many, many, many times for the lack of geographical knowledge, false news, prejudice, bigotry, misogyny, and support white supremacists, etc..
Remember this BLUNDER?  when Aretha Franklin died, they showed a photo of Patty LaBelle. You can google it.
This week, though, they earned it once again because they think Mexico has "countries." SIGH.
Here's the story:
Fox News host apologizes for ‘3 Mexican Countries’ chyron: ‘It never should have happened’

“We want to clarify and correct something that happened earlier in the show,” Ed Henry, host of “Fox & Friends,” said Sunday. “We had an inaccurate graphic on screen while talking about this very story. We just want to be clear, the funding is being cut off to the three Central American countries. We apologize for the error.”
But before the apology came the tweet, the disbelief, the jokes and the reflection. And before all that, there was the chyron.
On Sunday, “Fox & Friends” quickly jumped to news of the president’s plans to cut hundreds of millions of dollars in aid to three Central American countries over the flow of migrants to the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump has already warned of closing the border.
