A Successful Weimaraner Rescue Event!

On Sunday, March 19, we helped with the coordination of an event for the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue

 at the Gambrills, Maryland Pet Valu store.The manager of the store gave Justin our contact info, as we've done both Dachshund and Weimaraner rescue events at his store before.
   It turned out to be a wonderful event thanks to two Weimararner foster moms and Justin Ledger, a local realtor (who actually raises Boxers) who put it all together for the store. He donated 2 big baskets of toys and treats, a large dog bed, and bag of food for people who entered his free raffle. Justin's facebook  page is: https://www.facebook.com/justinledgerrealtor/.

   Ellie and Cooper's Foster moms brought them to the event and both came quite a distance (over 1 and 2 hours!), but that's what dog rescue people do!  Ellie's mom from Northern Virginia, and Cooper's mom from the Maryland/Delaware line.   Both stayed for the duration of the event. There was also a Weim member who brought her agility winning dog  to the event and spent time there.

   We were able to put up the big banner on one of Justin's tables as people came right in the front door so they saw it first. On that table we put the jar, the rescue info handout  and the list and description of all of the adoptable Weims.

      Two families expressed heavy interest in Ellie, and one woman  came back TWICE with middle aged parents, and their other dog to see if their dog and Ellie meshed well (they did).

  For an event that just came together, I'd say it was pretty successful over the 4 hour period!

A warning to pet parents who have workers come to their home

We're posting this story as a warning to pet parents who have workers come to their home. 
As dog dads who have a beautiful Weimaraner in our family, and who work with Weim rescues, we were horrified and outraged over this story from Texas where an energy company worker beat a homeowner's dog with a wrench and killed the dog!

This bastard that should be locked in a cell with rabid dogs. We post this to make you aware to keep your dogs in your home or in a different part of your home away from workers. You never know who will be coming into your home and your dogs are your children.

I went to the company's facebook page and they said they are "looking into it." So I commented on their page: I work with Weimaraner rescues and am furious about the beating death of this dog by your employee. Our dogs are our children. - killing this dog is the same as killing a human child. There is NO excuse for killing. This employee should be immediately fired and arrested. Dog rescues around the country need to be aware of who he is so they can be made aware of this dangerous individual. The employee and your company should not only cover vet bills, but make a huge donation to Weimaraner Rescues.

Dog hit with wrench by contractor in viral video has died

KINGSTON, Texas (WJBK) - After a video showing a contractor hitting a pair of dogs with a wrench gained national attention last month, one of the dogs died this week from its injuries.
A homeowner in Texas released video of an energy company contractor striking his dogs with a wrench that now has more than a million views and since it was posted a few weeks ago, one of the dogs has died.

  

The video shows the two Weimaraner bird dogs approaching the contractor, who was working for CenterPoint Energy. As they get closer, he begins lashing out at the dogs with a wrench. After they were hit, the dogs ran away from the man.

Homeowner Mike Wilcox said the worker faces the $2,000 vet bill accrued while experts took care of the injured dogs.

CenterPoint released a statement on the incident, claiming: "We have determined that a CenterPoint Energy contractor was at this address on this date. CenterPoint Energy does not condone or tolerate abuse of animals by our employees or our contractors. We have notified the contract company and they have assured us that they will conduct a full investigation into the incident.”

Formerly Abused Weimaraner Success Story: Westminster!

This year at the Westminster Kennel Club Show a Weimaraner who was "dumped" from a family in Virginia and adopted by a loving family went on to win acclaim. 

   Every dog has the same opportunity. It all depends on the pet parent and how much love they give a dog. This dog went from an abusive household to being a rock star.

  So, put time into training your dog. Give them love and attention. They deserve it and they will return it a million-fold to you.

   There are MANY Weimaraners that are currently at DC Area Weimaraner Rescue and Weimaraner Rescue of the North and Tickled Pink Weimaraner Rescue (to name just a few) that need homes. Please consider adopting from them.

"MAVERICK'S STORY" - 

#WKC: "Maverick,' a 5-year-old Weimaraner, has overcome a life of neglect and abuse to reach the green carpet of Westminster. His Virginia Beach, Va., owner purchased the dog off Craigslist in early 201 - simply to remove him from an environment that appeared to include almost 24-hour crating. After months of caring for Maverick’s many ailments and establishing a sound diet, his owner began entering Maverick in shows. In his second show, he took the breed and has been on a roll. A Heartwarming Dog Rescue Story from Weimaraner Rescue of the North

Here's  wonderful story about amazing, dedicated pet parents who adopted a Weimaraner  from our friend Tera Cunningham who manages Weimaraner Rescue of the North in upstate New York.

      Ghost officially became a Canadian citizen today! Let's all give him, Krista and Ken a "LIKE" to congratulate them on the beginning of their new life together.

      People often ask about how adopters are selected. That is a hard one to articulate in an answer. Every dog, applicant and situation is different. It's about getting the right combination of many factors. For those unlucky enough to be within the "inner circle of trust" here they know decisions are so carefully made and worried over. The bottom line is that I want to know these amazing dogs will be loved and cared for by committed, responsible owners who take owning a dog seriously.

    People who have owned weimaraners before and will go through some lengths to adopt one instantly get my attention. I have found that when something comes really easy, delivered on a silver platter, it's sometimes not appreciated as it should be- and in the world of adoptions, the dog pays the price. Adopting from us is not an easy, fast process nor is it meant to be really...
     There is so much that goes into it. These dogs deserve to be appreciated. When people commit to our adoption process I know the odds are they will be. (Although you can never be careful enough in my opinion!)
     Krista and Ken came all the way from Newfoundland in Canada (it's an island Province in the Atlantic, they flew to get here then rented a car and drove for hours) to adopt Ghost- quite a journey! For a dog who does not have a "stellar" past.
Will they appreciate him? My vote is YES!
       Ghost was so thrilled with his new people. I have never experienced a dog instantly just "click" with his new people like he did with them. It was like he knew them all his life. He just "knew" and he let me know he picked THEM!
He is a very special boy- wise beyond his years and such a personality. Today's adoption of Ghost was something I will never forget. Look at his face in the picture! He looks like the happiest dog in the world! Well least the happiest in Canada -eh?
