WeatherTech Super Bowl ad featuring Cancer Survivor - Scout, Golden Retriever

The Boston Globe shared this advance superbowl commercial that pays tribute to the Univ. of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, who saved a company CEO's Golden Retriever by treating a cancerous tumor on his heart. The dog had a 1 percent chance of survival and really beat the odds, thanks to the people at this amazing school. Here's the story>

Last year, vehicle accessories company WeatherTech ran a Super Bowl ad featuring Scout, a golden retriever owned by CEO David MacNeil. Later that year, Scout was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and was given one month to live. But an experimental procedure conducted at University of Wisconsin-Madison’s veterinary school saved Scout’s life, and MacNeil is thanking the school by purchasing an ad for it and promoting a fundraising campaign for the school.

“We wanted this year’s Super Bowl effort to not only raise awareness but also financial support for the incredible research and innovative treatments happening at the UW School of Veterinary Medicine, where Scout is still a patient,” MacNeil said in a press release.

A new 30-second commercial, titled “Lucky Dog,” will air during the second quarter of Super Bowl LIV. Paid for by WeatherTech, manufacturer of automotive accessories and home and pet care products, the commercial features Scout, a spokescanine and member of the family of WeatherTech founder and CEO David MacNeil. MacNeil brought Scout to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine in hopes of curing the dog's canine cancer. The commercial is a "thank you" from MacNeil for the treatment Scout received and offers a link for people to donate to the veterinary school to help fight canine cancer.
