Jamie Fraser and Claire Randall (main characters) |
We happened to be looking for something to watch one night over the last weekend and the historic angle of the show was appealing. Tom loves any kind of history of England, Scotland and Ireland, so he was intrigued. Now he's hooked... so I ordered the STARZ channel.
Tom loves the history in the show. I'm not a big fan of the sword-battling bloody battles, so I watch it while working on my book. Of course when the Scotsman Jamie Fraser comes on the TV and he's shirtless, I'll pay more attention. :)
It's well-acted, sometimes violent (it's about Scotland warring with England after all), and there is mystery, war and intrigue. The nurse becomes known for "working miracles of medicine" and spends time avoiding evil people while trying to return to the mysterious Druid spot that transported her to the 1740s.
The reason Rob watches it (while writing his book) |
After serving as a British Army nurse in World War II, Claire Randall is enjoying a second honeymoon in Scotland with husband Frank, an MI6 officer looking forward to a new career as an Oxford historian. Suddenly, Claire is transported to 1743 and into a mysterious world where her freedom and life are threatened. To survive, she marries Jamie Fraser, a strapping Scots warrior with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor. A passionate relationship ensues, and Claire is caught between two vastly different men in two inharmonious lives. "Outlander" is adapted from the best-selling books by Diana Gabaldon.
