Tyler (top) cuddles Franklin |
Franklin's back legs were paralyzed when the disc ruptured and the doctor told us it means FOUR weeks of post-surgery bed rest. The rehab would come after that.
For the first 2 weeks, we had to "tail walk"Franklin, bending over and trying to get him to use his legs (it was hard on our backs, too!). Now we're putting a bathrobe tie under his tummy (near back legs) and he's at least now moving his legs. However, he can't stand on them. His legs are too weak.
We do leg exercises with him daily, and carry him in and outside. He won't be able to climb or descend stairs anymore, sadly. Regardless, his spirit is still strong and a dish of food means he'll drag himself across the room (although we discourage that).
His left rear leg crosses in front of his right one, so when that happens he stops and sits. The right leg still isn't strong enough to stand on its own either.
Soon we'll look into laser and hydro therapy - when the four weeks of bed rest are over. That's in early October.
