Quebec Trip #8: Ghost Walk Pt5: Church Shadow Ghost Seen by Queen Elizabeth

Inside the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity
Today's blog is about our last stop on the Old Quebec City ghost walk, and today you'll learn about a ghost seen by Queen Elizabeth in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. This church is said to be the most haunted place along the ghost tour. For some reason, the month of November is also known to be the most active, "paranormally" speaking. There's also a special, odd "chair" here.

The balcony where the Queen saw the shadow figure
WHAT IS THE CATHEDRAL? - The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is the cathedral of the Anglican Diocese of Quebec and home to two parishes: the Parish of Quebec and la Paroisse de Tous les Saints. It's located at 31 Rue des Jardins, Ville de Québec, QC G1R 4L6, Canada. According to Quebecregion.com, "The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is the first Anglican cathedral built outside the British Isles. Nestled in the heart of Old Québec, it is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Québec City. While it was under construction between 1800 and 1804, King George III ordered an exceptional silver communion service for the new Cathedral that remains one of the finest examples of Georgian silver ever made. The chamber organ in this house of worship is an instrument of exceptional craftsmanship."

WHY WAS QUEEN ELIZABETH THERE? Since the church was a gift from England, there's a special bench for the royals on the left balcony, marked by a royal seal.  In addition to Queen Elizabeth visiting, William and Kate also visited.

Shadow figure
THE GHOST STORIES - 1) Queen Elizabeth reportedly saw a shadow figure on the balcony on the other side of the church from the Royal box! 2) The organist has repeatedly felt chills 3) Doors open and close mysteriously by themselves and 4) people hear footsteps when no one else is around.

Bishop's Chair
Regardless, there's some ghost or ghosts haunting the church.
WHY COULD THIS BE HAUNTED? - Our guide told us that the ghost may in fact be related to a young woman who murdered her infant and buried the child underneath the organ. Of course, that can't be substantiated, and it's horrifying and gross, so we're thinking it's untrue.

THE ODD CHAIR - The Bishop's chair was actually carved from a tree that was struck by lightning!

This entry concludes the ghost tour. In the next blog we'll meet 2 cool animals, and begin the walking history tour of Old Quebec!

Quebec Trip #6: Ghost Walk Pt3: Double Murder and Ghostly Orb Photo

Two ghostly orbs appeared in the courtyard of the old seminary
An orb is the most simple form a ghost can take. It's a round ball of light that has colors and designs in it. When we were on the Quebec Ghost Walk, we stopped at the Old Quebec Seminary.

ABOUT THE OLD QUEBEC SEMINARY - The historical site of the Séminaire de Québec in Old Quebec includes a vast number of buildings, some of which date back to the 17th century and are witnesses of the French occupation, while the others were constructed anywhere from the 18th to the 20th century.

MODERN DAY USE OF THE SEMINARY - since 1987 the Petit Séminaire de Québec is a private Roman Catholic secondary school separated from the Séminaire de Québec. Many French-Canadian clergy of the 18th and 19th century, as well as innumerable academics, went through the Petit Séminaire before higher education became widely accessible. Until 1970, the Superior of the Seminary was also the Rector of Laval University which was originally an offshoot of it.

THE GHOST STORY - It was near here that a man named Joseph Golibeau (spelling?) murdered the husbands of his two daughters. He was convicted of killing both his son-in-laws in 1763.

THE ORBS ON FILM!  - After we got home we looked at the photos taken in the courtyard of the old seminary and there were two orbs!  Each had a bluish color to them and had designs in them. We are not sure who they may be, but one could be a former seminarian who never left while the other could be the ghost of Joseph Golibeau, or perhaps they're the ghosts of Golibeau's two son-in-laws looking for answers about why they were murdered.

Quebec Trip #4: Ghost Walk Pt1: David McClean's Ghost

L to R: Nick, Mike and Tom on ghost walk
In this blog about our trip to Old Quebec, we'll tell you one of the stories from the ghost walk.

GHOST TOURS OF QUEBEC - If you go, definitely get a tour through Ghost Tours of Quebec at 34 Boulevard Champlain, Ville de Québec, QC G1K 4H7, Canada, Phone+1 418-692-9770

THE HAUNTING OF DAVID MCCLEAN -
This one was particularly creepy because it was about an innocent man who was visiting Quebec from Rhode Island (U.S.)  and was wrongly convicted of treason and sentenced to death by the city lawmakers.
Location of David McClean's execution

THE LOCATION -  We stopped at the corner of the Museum of Civilization and heard the story of  David McClean who was a merchant who visited Quebec. That corner actually used to be the location the wharf was in 1796, when McClean visited. (You'll see later how the shoreline kept moving from the river as more dirt was brought in.)
This location was special to the story because it was where David was hanged for being a traitor to Canada. Of course he was framed because he was not a citizen (as we mentioned earlier). So the sentence made no sense. He was also apparently beat up before he was hanged (and dismembered), too.

SENSING HIS GHOST - As you know, we have the ability to sense ghosts or spirits, and I (Rob) felt like my teeth were kicked in and blood was dripping from my mouth. (not a good feeling, but sometimes ghosts will make people feel the pain they endured before they passed).  I assume that's what happened to David before his sentence was carried out. I also felt as if my fingernails were scraped the ground. I was also very, very dizzy. Ghosts will give you a sensation of how they died to prove their identity.

Quebec Trip #2: Ghosts in the Hotel?

In May we took a vacation to the Old City of  Quebec, Canada. In this second blog, we'll share stories of ghosts who were said to haunt the hotel we stayed in (which we won't mention here, but you can find it on the previous blog).

VISITORS' GHOSTLY ENCOUNTERS - Since Tom and I (Rob) are paranormal investigators, we sometimes mention that when we visit places, to learn if anyone has a ghost story. As it turned out, there were some stories of paranormal encounters right where we were staying.  A couple of people in the hotel were nice enough to share their experiences or stories they heard about paranormal happenings in the hotel (a former bank). All of the pre-reported hauntings occurred on the 6th and 7th floors, so we had to explore and check it out

Here are the stories from others, and then we'll get to our experiences:
1) HAUNTED PHONE - In one of the rooms a phone has been reported to ring nightly at 2:02 a.m. and there's never anyone on the other end.
A picture of a man that resembles the ghost Rob saw
2) WHO'S THAT MAN? - While in a room on the 6th or 7th floor, a concierge had just brought up a visitor's luggage when he looked up at the large mirror in the room. It was there he saw a man sitting at a desk looking at him. When the concierge turned around there was no one sitting at the desk, just as there was no one else in the room when he entered it.

OUR INVESTIGATION - Tom, Rob, Nick and Mike all ventured up to the 6th and 7th floors. It was on the 7th floor that Rob and Nick both developed a pain in the back of their heads just outside of room 728 (possibly the ghost sharing pain of death). When 2 people feel the exact same thing at the same time, it's not a coincidence. It's a message from someone who died and stayed behind as a ghost.
Rob's sketch of the ghost

MALE GHOST - On the 7th floor, I (Rob) sensed a male who was in his 50s, with dark hair, beard, wore a dark suit and spoke french (which would make sense in Quebec). I also heard the name "Jon" which is likely "Jean" (in French). This was likely the man that appeared in the mirror to the concierge months before. I sketched him out when there and found a photo on-line that looked like my sketch.

FEMALE GHOST - Perhaps the woman that Tom sensed is the one responsible for making the phone calls at 2:02 a.m. nightly in one room on the 7th floor. .At the same time, I got chills only on my left leg (meaning that there was something standing next to me!), and I had difficulty breathing, too!.
