WESTERLY, R.I. (WJAR) — A heroic rescue by a local fire department helped save a dog's life when it ventured onto thin ice in Westerly.
Phoenix, a golden retriever, found himself in the terrifying situation Thursday when he decided to take a stroll on Little Masachaug Pond only for the thin ice to give way, plunging him paws first into the pond.
Volunteers with the Misquamicut Fire Department were there within minutes, but getting to Phoenix was no easy swim.
Video posted to the Misquamicut Fire Department's Facebook page shows the daring rescue, and Phoenix was all too happy to reach out for the helping hand and get back to shore.
