Idiot of the Week: NH Rep. Spillane Censured by the House for Vile Social Media Posts

This week's idiot is a New Hampshire Republican (no surprise) who was censured by the New Hampshire legislature for his vile and disgusting posts against a NH Democrat. He's got a history of insults and racists posts, too.  When you read what this idiot wrote, you'll be disgusted, or you should be. Since the orange virus came into power, it seems there is no bottom to the insults.  Yet, this idiot was voted in office by people in New Hampshire.

NH GOP Rep. Spillane Censured by the House for Social Media Posts

By GARRY RAYNO, InDepthNH.org

CONCORD — The House in what might be its last action of the 2026 session, censured Rep. James A. Spillane, R-Deerfield, for defamatory and demeaning remarks he made about fellow legislators on his social media (X) account.

The Legislative Ethics Committee filed a report recommending the censure after three lawmakers filed complaints in March with the committee and the House adopted the report and the censure on a 185-93 vote Wednesday.

This was not Spillane’s first involvement with the Ethics Committee.

In its report, the committee charged Spillane with “Making postings on the social media website ‘X’ in which he identified himself as ‘Representative James Spillane,’ with offensive and demeaning comments about other House members.

“More specifically, when Representative (Timothy) Horrigan responded to his posted description of Representative (Democrat Cathryn) Harvey as a ‘liar,’ Representative Spillane referred to Representative Horrigan as ‘retarded,’ commented that his mother had ‘f—-d (middle letters deleted) her cousin,’ and accused him of dropping acid in the 60’s,” according to the special report to the Speaker of the House signed by Legislative Ethics Committee chairman Edward M. Gordon.

The committee charged Spillane with violating ethics guidelines that legislators “shall ensure that government is conducted openly, equitably and honorably in a manner that permits the citizenry to make informed judgments, have confidence in the integrity of the legislature, and hold government officials accountable” and violating a principle of conduct that legislators “shall treat each other, legislative employees, and the public with dignity and respect.”

Rep. Robert Lynn, R-Windham, the House Judiciary Committee Chair and former state Supreme Court Chief Justice, said it is clear Spillane’s conduct “crossed way over the line.”

The facts are not in dispute, he said, noting that Spillane identified himself as a representative and the comments were made in a discussion about a vote on legislation in the House.

Before the committee, Spillane argued his posts on social media were not done in performance of his duties as a member of the legislature so his conduct does not fall within the committee’s jurisdiction. Spillane also argued his comments are protected speech under the federal and New Hampshire constitutions. But Lynn refuted those arguments saying the discussion clearly concerned legislation and legislative activity and was related to House business.

He said a 2022 US Supreme Court unanimous decision in Houston Community College System vs Wilson addresses the free speech issues.

The opinion written by Justice Neil Gorsuch found Wilson’s First Amendment rights were not violated by his fellow board members’ censure because it did not hinder his ability to exercise his free speech as an elected official, and that boards have long used censure of members and as an act of the board exercising its free speech rights, Lynn explained.

“(Rep. Spillane may have a constitutional right to make a statement and we have a constitutional right to say loudly and clearly it violates our ethics rules,” Lynn said. Not only is Spillane’s standing and reputation at issue, the public standing and the reputation of the House is at issue, he said. “If we fail to condemn the actions of Rep. Spillane,” Lynn said, “what will the public think of us for condoning such behavior?”

No one spoke to defend Spillane’s behavior, but Rep. Gregory Hill, R-Hill, said he believes the punishment should not rise to the level of censure, instead it should be a reprimand or they should remove the word guidelines if they are going to be used for punishment.

The same committee admonished Spillane for an anti-Semitic post on the social media site Parler in 2021, but didn’t take it into account in the finding that was released earlier this month. In that case, Spillane said he didn’t know it was an anti-Semitic meme and apologized.

In 2020, the civil rights unit of the Attorney General’s Office investigated a social media post by Spillane that stated “Public Service Announcement: If you see a (Black Lives Matter) sign on a lawn it’s the same as having the porch light on for Halloween. You’re free to loot and burn that house.” Spillane said at the time he meant that post as “tongue-in-cheek” political commentary and the investigation was suspended with no action taken.

Gordon wrote in the report that it is not uncommon for legislators to disagree over the substance of legislation that may even lead to “unpleasant exchanges at times…”

“But here, Representative Spillane has publicly made extremely offensive assertions about another member, calling him ‘retarded,’ alleging he ‘dropped acid in the 60’s’, and, perhaps most offensively, asserting that his mother engaged in sexual activity with her cousin.

“This is not an acceptable disagreement over a legislative outcome. It is a direct personal attack. It demonstrates a complete lack of respect and absolute lack of concern for the dignity of another Representative. The public postings published by Representative Spillane are clearly defamatory of another member of the legislature, Representative Horrigan. His comments were demeaning and constituted harassment. His conduct cannot be viewed in a manner consistent with the established ethical guidelines established by the General Court.”

The three complaints against Spillane were filed by Reps. Paul S. Berch, D-Westmoreland, Harvey, D-Spofford, and Horrigan, D-Durham.

Idiots of the Week: Kansas GOP Fundraiser Let People Kick And Punch A Biden Effigy

This week is an entire Party of Idiots. What has happened to the Republican party?
In March, the Republican fundraiser in Kansas displayed a mannequin that looks like President Biden, so GOP supporters could beat and brutalize it.
They support violence against people,  a leader who lies, commits sexual assaults, bribery, payoffs, insults everyone, uses hatred to motivate his followers, mocks people with disabilities, defrauds states in taxes, reveals national intelligence and brainwashes people.  The Republican party should be ashamed and needs to clean up its act. The party and all who support it are truly now Deplorable. Here's the story.

A Kansas GOP Fundraiser Let People Kick And Punch A Biden Effigy

By David Moye, Huff post, Mar 11, 2024, 05:17 PM EDT

Officials for the Kansas Republican Party are crying foul after a fundraiser for the Johnson County GOP featured an effigy of President Joe Biden that attendees could pay to physically assault.

Video from Friday’s “Grand Ol’ Party” event in Overland Park, Kansas, shows people punching, kicking and swinging a bat at a Biden mannequin wearing a “Let’s Go Brandon” shirt.

“This booth was hosted by a Karate school to promote their self defense class,” Maria Holiday, who chairs the Johnson County Republican Party, told The Kansas City Star.

Video of people kicking the Biden dummy was uploaded to the video platform Rumble, but later deleted.

Below, however, you can see video of the event that Democratic commentator and attorney Kaivan Shroff uploaded to X, formerly Twitter. WATCH SOME OF THESE DEPLORABLES HERE: https://x.com/KaivanShroff/status/1767001978792444396?s=20

Kansas GOP officials condemned the effigy attacks.

In a Facebook post, former Kansas GOP chairman Mike Kuckelman wrote: “This conduct is shameful, and it is wrong.” He called for the resignations of Holiday, Kansas Republican Party chairman Mike Brown and Johnson County Sheriff Calvin Hayden.

Kuckelman reminded his fellow Republicans that they were outraged “when Kathy Griffin engaged in similar shameful conduct against President Trump” and “rightfully demanded she be cancelled.” He insisted that party members “must speak equally as loudly in our opposition now.”

Kuckelman said that while he didn’t agree with Biden’s policies, “he is a fellow human being” and “no one should condone or defend this horrific and shameful conduct.”

Kansas House Speaker Dan Hawkins (R) said he couldn’t speak to the specifics of Friday’s event, but told the Star that “what may seem like a joke for many will be seen by some as an expansion of acceptable behavior with potentially tragic consequences.”

Republican congressional candidate Dr. Prasanth Reddy, a research oncologist in Johnson County, criticized the effigy attacks on X, saying that “ridiculous, thoughtless actions like this one distract from those trying to deliver solutions.”

In a statement to HuffPost, Holiday admitted the “events last weekend [were] tarnished by a brief incident where a mask depicting President Biden was added to an outside exhibitor interactive self defense display.”

Holiday said “the mask was regrettable and removed” and said “no one collected or solicited any funds or donations in exchange for hitting the training device.”

But plenty of people on social media had strong opinions on the matter ― and, yes, many of them mentioned Griffin’s 2017 photo with a fake bloody Donald Trump head.

Idiots of the week: Indiana man accused of killing wife Wins Primary Race (Other idiots: The IN Voters)

Wow- This is how low the supporters of the Republican party have sunk. They've voted to elected an accused murderer (currently behind bars, who Admitted it!) as their political representative. So, abortion in the case of rape and incest is horrible, but murdering your wife is okay.

Republicans obviously think that it's better to vote in a Murderer than a Democrat- How twisted and sickening.   **Here's the story about this Deplorable idiot of the week who won the GOP Primary in Indiana.

Lebanon man accused of killing wife among winners in Indiana primary race

A Lebanon man accused of killing his wife in March and dumping her body in a creek is among the candidates to advance in a local election after Indiana's primaries Tuesday.

Andrew Wilhoite, who’s suspected of fatally striking his wife with a gallon-sized concrete flower pot, secured a spot Tuesday as one of three Republican candidates in the race for a seat on the Clinton Township Board.

The 40-year-old has been incarcerated in the Boone County Jail since March after police said he told investigators he threw a concrete flower pot at his wife, Nikki Wilhoite, the night before and dropped her body over the side of a bridge.

Prosecutors charged Andrew Wilhoite with murder in his wife’s killing. His next court hearing is scheduled for May 27.

How can a candidate run for office while facing felony charges?

State election officials said it’s legal for people facing felony charges, such as Andrew Wilhoite, to run for local office. A person is only ineligible if they are convicted. (Well, he's got a hearing at the end of MAY, so maybe he'll get convicted and dropped from the race)

“Under our legal system, every person is innocent until proven guilty,” said Brad King, co-director of the Indiana Election Division. “If a candidate is ultimately convicted, then depending upon the timing of that conviction, the person can be replaced on the ballot by the political party that has a vacancy.”

King further noted that there's no law prohibiting a person who's incarcerated before trial from "exercising the duties of their office," should they get elected.

"How that practically gets executed will depend on the facts," King said.

Wife's death investigation

The Boone County Clerk’s office said election filings occurred at the beginning of January through the first week of February, before Andrew Wilhoite was taken into custody on his murder charge.

UNDER NEW TAX LAW: 9 tax deductions individuals can no longer claim in 2018

Credit: Shutterstock
The new "Tax law" takes away these 9 deductions that middle class people often take. Well, thanks to you know who in the WH and the entire Republican Party, you can't take any of them anymore. What does that mean for you? HIGHER TAXES.  For the rich? no impact.
REMEMBER THIS.  Here are the 9 deductions that are no longer valid:

9 tax deductions individuals can no longer claim in 2018
CBS RAY MARTIN MONEYWATCH August 17, 2018, 5:45 AM

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act gave taxpayers lower tax rates on more of their income, nearly doubled the standard deduction, and provided higher tax credits for families with children. But while the new tax reform law gives breaks to many, it also takes away from others.

To pay for the tax breaks, the tax law erased many deductions that millions of taxpayers claim every year. These popular deductions will no longer be allowed starting in the current tax year through 2025, unless the Congress acts to make the new tax law permanent.

That means if you were counting on these deductions to reduce your tax bill, you'll need to do some planning now so you won't have tax bill sticker shock when you file your 2018 tax returns. Here are nine popular tax deductions that are no longer allowed and who typically has claimed them.

Personal Exemptions
Last year, everyone could claim this deduction, which was $4,050 for yourself and each family member listed on your tax return. So, if you are single, you could claim one exemption, and if married with two children, you would have claimed four personal exemptions.

Lawmakers say that the doubling of the standard deduction effectively replaced this exemption – but that's not exactly true.

Take an individual filing in 2017. She could have taken her standard deduction of $6,350 and a personal deduction of $4,050, totaling $10,400.
Under the new tax law, her personal deduction is zero in 2018 and her standard deduction is $12,000. In this example, the single taxpayer has a larger deduction in 2018.
Families are in a different situation. In 2017, a family of four would have enjoyed a personal exemption of $16,200 ($4,050 x 4) and a standard deduction of $12,700, totalling a combined deduction of $28,900.

But in 2018, they can no longer claim the personal deduction, and their standard deduction is $24,000, or lower than the deduction they enjoyed in 2017.
But families may still make come out ahead, given that some taxpayers lost deductions if their income exceeded certain thresholds. Starting in 2018, the phase-out for the personal exemption and standard deduction for married couples with adjusted gross income above $313,800 (and singles above $261,500) has been repealed. Also, families will receive higher child tax credits in 2018, so those tax credits may offset the impact of the loss of personal exemptions for families.

Home equity loan interest
The new tax law generally limits the deductibility of mortgage interest on up to $750,000 of debt used to acquire a home. The new rules also disallow deducting the interest on home equity loans used in many common transactions.

For example, if you take out a home equity loan on your home and used the proceeds for other purposes, such as college tuition or to pay off credit card debt, then you can't treat the interest on that home equity loan as deductible qualified residence interest. If instead you took out a home equity loan and used the proceeds to improve your existing home, then the interest would be deductible -- but only if the loan, when combined with your current mortgage, does not exceed the $750,000 total loan limits under the new rules.

Many homeowners with existing mortgages and home equity loans will be unaffected because the prior-law-rules are still in place for them.

Moving expenses
If you met specific IRS criteria, and you have expenses relating to a move due to a change in your job or business location, your moving expenses would have been deductible in 2017. In 2015, the last year where data is available, approximately 1.1 million taxpayers claimed this deduction, which saved them about $3.7 billion.

The tax law eliminates this deduction, which could be claimed even if you didn't itemize your other deductions. Some folks are exempt from this change, such as members of the military on active duty.

Job expenses
The deductions you've claimed for costs for things related to your job – such as license fees, required medical tests, clothing, tools and equipment and unreimbursed continuing education – are no longer allowed. The deduction for these costs was only allowed to the extent that these costs, when combined with your other miscellaneous deductions exceeded 2 percent of your AGI.

Because your employer can still deduct these costs, consider asking them to help towards these expenses.

Tax preparation fees
Like job expenses, the costs you've paid to your tax preparer, when combined with other miscellaneous deductions were deductible to the extent the total exceeded two percent of your AGI. This deduction is no longer allowed.

Other miscellaneous deductions
The list of other deductions – which includes investment advisory fees, investment related fees, credit card convenience fees, IRA account fees, etc. – all which were subject to the two percent AGI limit, are no longer allowed.

Parking and transit reimbursements
Last year, workers could receive up to $255 per month from their employer towards parking and transit costs, and employers could deduct these reimbursements, which were also tax-free to the employee. Now employers can no deduct these reimbursements, so more employers are looking to eliminate these reimbursements to their employees.

Casualty and theft losses
It used to be that if you incurred uninsured losses of property due to fires, flood, earthquake or other disasters that were greater than ten percent of your AGI, the loss could be claimed as a deduction after subtracting $100 for each casualty loss of personal property. Under the new law, this deduction is only allowed for property damaged in areas which are under a presidential declaration as a disaster area.

Donations to colleges to receive tickets to athletic events
If you donated to a college and received tickets to an athletic event, you are now required to reduce the amount of your charitable donation deduction by the value of any tickets you receive to attend an athletic event. Surprisingly, this reduction for the value of tickets wasn't required in prior years.
