A New Hampshire man who police say dragged a Massachusetts State Police trooper during a traffic stop in Boston last week has been extradited from his home state to face charges in Massachusetts, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday. Raymond, NH resident Binit Bikram Shah, 27, is facing eight counts including assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving personal injury out of East Boston District Court, according to court records.

Shah was arraigned on the charges on Wednesday and ordered held on $5,000 cash bail, according to court records. The judge issued conditions for his release, including that he refrain from driving without a license and only travel between states for court appearances.

Shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 19, a trooper stopped Shah at the intersection of Central Square and Meridian Street in East Boston, Massachusetts State Police said previously. The trooper asked for his identifying information and soon discovered he was driving with a suspended license.

When the trooper tried to get Shah to leave the car so it could be towed, he shifted gears and sped off, dragging the trooper approximately 15 feet, State Police said. Afterward, the trooper was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and nearby law enforcement agencies were asked to be on the lookout for Shah’s car.

Shortly after 3 a.m., a New Hampshire State Police trooper noticed Shah’s car — a black 2021 BMW 5 Series — driving north on I-95 in Seabrook, New Hampshire State Police said previously. A group of troopers then pulled the car over together, determined that Shah was intoxicated and arrested him.

Shah has also been charged with operating under the influence, operation of motor vehicle without a license and drug possession in a New Hampshire court in connection with the incident, New Hampshire State Police said.
