A Fun, Local Drag Show to see a Friend Perform

On March 24, 2024, local drag star Holly Daze made an appearance at the Cup of Joe restaurant and bar, in Portsmouth New Hampshire and we had fun attending. We enjoyed her performance and those of the other 4 drag queens and a "drag king" (which I had not heard of before). Today's blog has photos of Holly and some of the others. Plus, there's an 18 second video of her performance.

Holly Daze is the drag name for our friend Paul, whom we met here in northern New England. He's educated in song, dance and acting, and he's a very talented guy. As "Holly Daze," she has been entertaining here in New Hampshire and Maine for the last year or two.

She performed a song from the musical "Guys and Dolls," called "Luck Be a Lady."

For those who don't know it, "Luck Be a Lady" is a song written and composed by Frank Loesser in 1950 and first performed by Robert Alda. The song was featured in the musical Guys and Dolls. The lyrics relate the point of view of a gambler, Sky Masterson, who hopes that he will win a bet, the outcome of which will decide whether or not he is able to save his relationship with the girl of his dreams.

The other performers were good, but in our opinion, none of them came close to Holly! Yes, Favoritism. :)

I only recognized 2 other songs (because I'm old)- one from Taylor Swift and the other an 80s song called "I think we're alone now" by Tiffany.

Holly said, "The other entertainers of the evening included; Host Bianca York, Asia Deluxe, Saison LeFaye, and the Drag King Dixso Dope. They can be found on most social media platforms. Please follow them and support queer artists by attending shows/events, giving them money, and telling everyone where they can be found in the wild."

It was a really fun night out and a change of pace, where we got to see a talented friend and support him.

HOLLY DAZE'S ONLINE Drag Challenge - Not only is Holly Daze an entertainer, but developed an online challenge for fledgling drag performers to compete for a prize.  Here's the link: https://www.instagram.com/celebrate_drag_comp?igsh=MWljaWdhcjNkbzM1bw%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

Here's a Short 18 Second Video - that I took of Holly Daze singing "Luck Be a Lady."
