Danube River Cruise #49: Ghosts of Cesky Krumlov - Part 2

Screaming ghosts of burning witches at the Plague Pillar
In today's blog, we're still walking through the beautiful and ancient city of Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, and we're going to tell you about more ghostly legends from the town. Thanks to Globallist.com, who cataloged several of the ghosts that haunt the town. Here is part 2 of 2:

1) GHOSTS AROUND THE PLAGUE PILLAR! - This monument is right in the middle of the town square. In fact, we waited around it to find our tour guide to return to our bus. The square is one of the most crowded and popular parts of the entire city.  It's located at nám. Svornosti 10, Vnitřní Město, 381 01 Český Krumlov, Czechia.
The Plague Pillar is a column topped with the statue of the Virgin Mary and eight saints, the patron saints of the town and protectors against plague. In the upper row there are statues of St. Wenceslas, St. Vitus, St. John Evangelist, St. Judas Thaddeus, and in the lower row St. Francis Xavier, St. Sebastian, St. Gaetano and St. Rochus. The Baroque sculpture decoration is the work of the Prague sculptor Matěj Václav Jäckel, from 1714 - 1716.

The Ghost Story:  The story goes that during the times of the church’s struggle with heretics and dissidents, all of which occurred in the main square, the churches would light a fire to kill the witches. They were executed by the Holy Inquisition. Today, the curses and insults of these burned witches can often be heard here.

2) THE BUTLER STILL SERVING WINE - According to the Castle's website:  The Cellars in the IVth Courtyard of Český Krumlov Castle are haunted by a butler.  Old wine was buried and stored in these cellars. It is said that the Rosenberg butler was so assiduous that he looked after the wine even after his death. He always offered useful advice to his successors and helped them to find wine of a delightful taste and aroma. However, he was not only a good-natured man but was capable of being mischievous as well.

3) CASTLE BREWERY HAUNTING  - In Castle Brewery, there's a ghost who haunts a workshop.  In this house an odd knocking can often be heard at nights as if a coppersmith was knocking on hoops. According to the story, a faithful coppersmith had to get himself some reed from the castle pond to seal the barrels. Through an unfortunate accident he fell out of the boat and drowned, so he couldn\'t fulfill the task he had undertaken. Not even after his death could the coppersmith rest in peace, and during full moons he haunts the workshop of the brewery, trying to complete his work.
