Way too long and complex |
Friday night started off great when we met our friends Tom and Joe for a great dinner. It was after dinner that we chose to get a DVD out of Redbox to watch and relax for the night.
POOR MOVIE CHOICE - Earlier in 2019, we saw the first "Fantastic Beasts" film and really enjoyed it. So, Friday we rented the sequel called "Fantastic Beasts, Crimes of Grindelwald." Since we liked the main character, and the mystical stuff, we thought it would be entertaining. For the most part it was - but there were so many storylines that it became very, very difficult to keep track of them, and the characters. The worst part for us was that after 1 1/2 hours it was still going and no plot lines were tied up. We just can't watch a 2 1/2 hour movie in one sitting. So, we turned it off and had to return it the next morning. If it wasn't so convoluted and had so many characters and storylines, it would have been more enjoyable.
NOT A GOOD CONCERT - On Wednesday of last week, we went to Annapolis with my brother and his 2 sons to get dinner. While there, Rams Head Tavern was hosting an outside game, and we won 2 free concert tickets for this past Saturday night. The two people in concert were Beth Neilson Chapman, a country music songwriter that I (Rob) am familiar with and like her music. The other person was Dan Navarro, another songwriter but one whom neither of us knew. According to Wikipedia, he is an American vocalist, guitarist and voice actor best known as half of the duo Lowen & Navarro. He performed first and we not only didn't recognize anything he did, it just wasn't our kind of music. I think it was folk - I'm unsure. Regardless, we didn't enjoy it and as he was wrapping up for Beth to come on, we left. It was just not enjoyable.
I later learned he and Lowen first gained recognition when Pat Benatar featured their song "We Belong" on her album Tropico, released on November 24, 1984. Of course, if he sang that first, it would have helped, but he started singing it was we were already out the door.
Maybe next weekend we'll make better choices.
