Tyler's School Going Well!

going around a cone
Our 4 year old black and tan Dachshund, Tyler "The Terror" is actually really smart!! His second day of class was outstanding. He had to touch my hands with his nose to get treats and he did when I said "touch."
- He learned how to go around an orange cone, in preparation for agility training (next year) and he learned pretty quickly
Waiting for the okay to get the treat
- He also learned that when I drop a treat on the ground he waits until I say "okay" before he gets it! That comes in handy when I'm cooking and I drop something he shouldn't eat.
 Good job Tyler!!

Tyler's First Class Goes Well!

Tyler arrives
Since Tyler needs more obedience, we've enrolled him in school again. (He's our little black and tan, 17 pound, almost 5 year old lovable "terror"). Last week was the first class, and he did really well!
Since Tyler doesn't like other dogs when he first meets them I had to put his muzzle on in the beginning, but was able to remove it when we got started.
A happy and proud Tyler after training!
He really caught on quickly. The first lessons were to put a treat in an open palm and tell him to stay. He was not supposed to lunge for it. He did at first and I had to close my hand when he did. After a short time, he would stay until I said "okay." Then he would get it. He learned!
He's good at sitting, and coming when I call. I have found that calling "Tyler, come, come, come, come" in an excited tone gets him to run inside. In fact, the trainer said that's exactly how to get a dog to come to you.
There were little agility jump poles set up, too, so I did a trial run with him and after the first pole he understood and he jumped all of them with me! He's going to agility class after this class is over. He's proven he's enthusiastic!

Tyler Graduated from Puppy School Today!

I'm Tyler and I graduated today! 7-18-13
Today, July 18, our puppy, Tyler, the mini black and tan dachshund, graduated from Puppy training school. He's even learned how to do some intermediate things.
 - Tom took him to school for the 8 weeks (so they could bond).
Tyler and a proud Daddy Tom!
Graduation pose!
Puppy training was at the local Petsmart, and the trainer was great and fun. Tyler had one other classmate and both got to wear graduation hats. At the end of the class, I (Rob) showed up with Dolly and Franklin, so we could all be there graduation!

Tyler says "Enough pictures, where are the treats?"
The graduate...looks pretty smug, doesn't he?
