My new Advertisement in Downeast Dog News!

I recently learned about a really cool newspaper devoted entirely to dogs in central and southern Maine called Downeast Dog News

There's also a digital version, but it contains a fraction of what is printed. Online you'll find COLUMNS, ADOPTABLE DOGS, CALENDAR, and BUSINESS LISTINGS. My ad won't come out until the January issue (it's monthly) but the designer did such a great job that I had to share it here, too!

Had an Amazing Event at Lakes Region Humane Society!

The  Lakes Region Humane Society (LRHS) in Ossipee, New Hampshire hosted me for the 5th year to give my lecture "Pets and the Afterlife: How pets communicate from spirit," and it was special. In fact, in today's blog you'll read how 2 dogs in spirit jumped into my vehicle to ensure their pet parents knew they are still around.

I give lectures to animal rescues as a fundraiser (they keep all the proceeds) and bring healing to grieving pet parents. This past October 14, I gave a lecture to an amazing group, many of whom had their own experiences! Today's blog is about this experience!

LRHS really appreciates donations! You can reach them at https://lrhs.net/home/ or Phone: (603) 539-1077. LRHS is located at 11 Old Rte 28, Ossipee, NH 03864.There are adoptions, events, lost and found pets, education, a foster program (they always need fosters), a Wish List for food, supplies, cash, and more. Please help them out!

The event this year was especially moving for me. I was able to share incredible messages from cats, dogs, and other domesticated pets. We laughed, cried, and felt relief from everyone who shared their own experiences.

On my drive over to the event, a black labrador retriever and a German shepherd showed up in spirit in my pickup truck to let me know they were coming as a message to their pet parents who would be at the event. One woman confirmed she had both types of dogs, while there were others who had black labs who passed. Those spirits were for all of those people, but especially the woman who had both!

This year published my Pets and the Afterlife 4: Spirit Cats book.
So many amazing experiences were shared! It was great to hear from a woman in attendance that she felt her cat in spirit sleeping against her thigh. Others reported seeing dogs that resembled their dogs in spirit. One person heard their dog bark after the dog passed. Another person shared a dream that their dog had healed in spirit. So many wonderful, healing experiences.
Coming back in 2024! Lakes Region Humane Society and I have already booked a return appearance for Oct 12, 2024, so you have 11 months to reserve it on your calendar!

Wow! My New Book hits #1 on Amazon: Ghosts of the Bird Cage Theatre on a Medium's Vacation

Yesterday was a BIG Day for me. As a self-published author it's so hard to write a book that goes to the top of any category on Amazon, given that each category has hundreds of thousands of books. I'm humbled to say that my latest book "Ghosts of the Bird Cage Theatre on a Medium's Vacation" hit #1 in the Category of General Western U.S. Travel!!

It happened after I had a great 2-hour live video interview on YouTube with  Jim Wyrick and Dave Haynie of the Keystone State Paranormal Society on their show "Doorway to the Dead."

This is my 2nd number one of my 9 books!  The Pets and the Afterlife 3: Messages from Spirit Dogs, was the first. I am so excited!

Fittingly, today is the anniversary of my dog, Buzz's passing, so this is his way of letting me know he's around - because something amazing happened!

Grief is a funny old beast, something that we never know how we’re going to deal with until we are hit with it. It's a long, winding process that can rear its ugly head at any time when you least expect it.

Until you experience a loss of someone close to you, it’s impossible to know how you will feel or how you will react. An extremely difficult one to navigate, so many of us find comfort in various resources, books being one of the most notable places to start.

Book Authority identifies and rates the best books in the world based on recommendations by experts and their community of readers. They compiled some of the most popular, best-selling books to aid people in understanding grief and we’ve put together a little introduction for each book to give you a taste of what each is about and how they can help.

Little Matches -A Memoir of Grief and Light An emotionally raw memoir that illuminates the story of a mother’s grief after the loss of her adult child. The book considers the hope of soulful connections that transcend the boundary of life and death.

Widowish - A Memoir A memoir of grieving 'outside of the box' and the surprising nature of love. Discussing Melissa Gould's approach to grieving, not fitting into the typical 'widow' mould and how she focused on offering the only things she could to her dying husband, love and devotion.

Loving and Living Your Way Through Grief -A Comprehensive Guide to Reclaiming and Cultivating Joy and Carrying on in the Face of Loss This book offers help in healing from grief and loss and its pages are filled with insight, wisdom and relatable stories. This resource shares everything you need to know to start living again with joy, meaning, and love after loss. It's organised so that you can choose a topic from the table of contents relating to the issue that is affecting you the most at that moment.

Good Grief I'm Healed -Hurt in the World, Healed by the Word Author Suzanne Grimaud reveals how she received an inner healing from very painful situations, such as when she lost both her mother and sister in a fatal car accident. This book is for those who are tired of the trauma, grief, anxiety, panic and fear and just want to start living again.

The Night Lake - A Young Priest Maps the Topography of Grief This is a raw and intensely affecting memoir by a young priest about the loss of a child, the following grief and aftermath, and the hard-won joy that can follow.

Pets and the Afterlife 3 - Messages from Spirit Dogs This is the third volume in a series of books by Rob Gutro on pet communications from the afterlife. The book focuses solely on how dogs communicate from spirit. In addition, there is a special chapter by a licensed professional on how to cope with grief.

Good Grief - Embracing life at a time of death Mother and daughter Anne Mayer Bird and Catherine Mayer were widowed within 41 days of each other on the eve of the pandemic, then forced into lockdown alone. Together they discovered ways to navigate their loss and how to handle the startling questions and challenges that confronted them. The main focus, however, is not on death, but on life and love.

The Language of Loss - Poetry and Prose for Grieving and Celebrating the Love of Your Life When Barbara Abercrombie’s husband died, she found the language of condolence irritating, even though it was well intended. She instead yearned for words that acknowledged the reality of death, spoke about the sorrow, loneliness, guilt and anger. This book is one to dip in to and read slowly, a collection of poems and prose to lead you through the phases of grief.

The Irreverent Grief Guide - How to F*cking Survive Months 1-3 The author of this book is a cheerleader for the grief process: "Manage a shower today (badass), skipped the shower and just doused yourself with cologne (your essence is perfection), spontaneous meltdown in a bathroom stall at work (proud of you). Whatever you are feeling is right!"

The AfterGrief - Finding Your Way Along the Long Arc of Loss A validating new approach to the long-term grieving process that explains why we feel "stuck,” why that’s entirely normal, and how shifting our perception of grief can help us to grow.

Your Grief, Your Way - A Year of Practical Guidance and Comfort After Loss This book is comprised of comforting words and practical ideas for living with loss. Some find solace in comforting quotes and warm words, while others feel a need to take action to memorialise their loss. This book offers a path forward for each reader, no matter how you process your grief.

God Does His Best Work with Empty A more religious book, God Does His Best Work with Empty discusses that although we see the emptiness of our lives as our greatest problem, that’s not how God sees it.

Embodied Resilience through Yoga - 30 Mindful Essays About Finding Empowerment After Addiction, Trauma, Grief, and Loss Here you'll find 30 personal essays of resilience to help you heal, connect and thrive through yoga, supporting your journey to self-acceptance and empowerment.

Lost Without You - Loving and Losing Tanya In July 2019, Vinnie Jones tragically lost his wife and soulmate, Tanya, after her six-year battle with cancer. Her passing was a devastating shock to everyone who knew her - and Vinnie found himself struggling to cope. In this extraordinarily intimate memoir, Vinnie tackles his grief honestly by sharing warm and colourful stories from the 25 years he spent married to Tanya alongside unfiltered accounts of the reality of grief.

Heartbroken - Healing from the Loss of a Spouse Bestselling author, hospice chaplain, and grief specialist Gary Roe is a well-respected and sought after voice in grief recovery. Gary has walked with hundreds of widows and widowers through this painful valley. From their stories he has composed this warm, practical work that will both touch your heart and comfort your soul.

The Gift of Grief - A Practical Guide on Navigating Grief and Loss The Gift of Grief is for those who are navigating a loss and are wanting to understand grief itself and how to heal from a variety of losses. The book helps the reader understand death, dying and other everyday life events that can cause us to grieve. This book helps you to understand the grieving process and addresses the different myths that can impact your personal journey.

16 Years Ago Today: Here's How My Dog Buzz Changed the World

Today, February 22nd, is the anniversary of the tragic day my Weimaraner puppy, Buzz, was tragically killed by a car at 7 months old. But like everyone, we all have a purpose, and Buzz, through his continual messages and signs from the afterlife, taught me how pets communicate from the other side. Buzz changed the world. Today's blog explains how he did just that.

Buzz's signs from moving objects, to the sounds of his feet walking around the house after his passing, to jingling a collar, visibly appearing, leading me and others to look-alikes, and even using music as signs helped open my abilities to communicate with pets on the other side. Buzz also inspired me to write my first book "Ghosts and Spirits" which has an entire chapter devoted to those many first signs.

Since he passed in 2005, and since the first book came out in 2010, and I was inspired to write "Pets and the Afterlife (1)" that published in 2014, I've heard from thousands of pet parents around the world. I've provided thousands of messages from pets in the afterlife. Thanks to Buzz, I've been able to offer understanding how pets communicate from the other side, and help people through their loss and grief.

Since then, I've published 2 more books in the series, "Pets and the Afterlife 2" and "Pets and the Afterlife 3: Messages from Spirit Dogs."  They've all attained "Best seller status on Amazon, so I know they're reaching people and hopefully bringing comfort.

I'm writing this today, because today marks 16 years since Buzz left me physically, but he continues to be around in spirit. You'll see Buzz's photo on the front cover of Pets and the Afterlife (1). Like your pets in spirit, he's always around, and it doesn't matter how long he's been physically gone. He's still here.

New Sign from My Dog Buzz's Spirit - 10 years this month

The 1996 Nickel
On this date ten years ago,  my (Rob)  first dog, Buzz Wyatt was struck and killed by a car  in front of me as I was walking him and his leash opened.  ( (later in the year Tom and I would finally meet) Buzz was less than one year old.You never get over that, but you do get signs from your pets. Buzz became the world's best canine communicator. In fact, he came to me so many ways that me made me aware of just how many ways a dog or cat could communicate from the other side. From doppelgangers to moving objects, from a
Buzz Wyatt
bark in the house to the sound of nails on the floor. Songs on the radio at times when I'm thinking of him or coins, butterflies or other things in nature.
I wrote about all of those things and more in my latest book called "Pets and the Afterlife." The book also contains chapters from three other mediums with their canine spirit communicators.

Spirits come around on birthdays, anniversaries and holidays to let us know they're still around us. Dogs and cats are no different from spirit people. They all acknowledge those events with us. So, this year, I got a sign from Buzz with help from a human spirit of a friend named Ed (who passed in 1996).

On the night of February 11th,  I asked Buzz Wyatt to send me a sign that he's around, and I also asked Ed's spirit to let me know that Buzz is with him (he always wanted a dog in life and never adopted one). So, on February 12, I got the answer.

Ed sent the nickel
At lunchtime I drove to the post office to mail a package and parked next to a curb. I got out of my truck and looked down and around (to make sure I wasn't too close to the curb) and there was nothing there. I mailed the package, and came back to the truck. As I was walking to the driver's side door, right next to it was a shiny nickel. When I saw it, I said in my head "Hello Edward!"

BTW- Spirits love to use coins to send messages they're around- and check the year, because if it means something to you or them- you'll have a better idea of who sent it. I didn't see the year until picked it up. It was dated 1996. 1996 was the year my friend Ed passed.  It was from Ed, and I heard him in my head say that "I've got my other dog." Our dog Sprite passed on July 8, 2013, and Ed let us know he was with him at that time. Now, Ed confirmed that Buzz was there with him, too - and it's the anniversary  month of Buzz's passing.

I was looking for a sign and I got it - from Ed and Buzz. .

Watch for signs from your pets and people. They send them. We just have to be open-minded and pay attention.

Buy Pets and Afterlife, Support Best Friends Animal Sanctuary

In November I contacted Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah about my book "Pets and the Afterlife." I have donated to the animal sanctuary for some time, and was amazed and overwhelmed with their response to saving pets after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, Louisiana and surrounding communities.(Being a meteorologist it was even more amazing because these volunteers basically went into what looked like a war zone after Katrina passed through).
I signed a one-year agreement with Best Friends to provide a percentage of profits from the sale of my paperback books done through the publisher's website (Createspace) to give back to them. So I'm a "A Best Friends Business Supporter."
So if you want to support Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and want to read my book - you can do both by ordering it directly through CreateSpace here:

Set up at the Paracon and a Dog Connection!

This is part three in Rob's trip to the Pensacola, Florida Paracon. After checking
    outside the paracon
into the hotel I drove to the Pensacola fair grounds to set up my table for the weekend (Sat./Sun.) event.
    Setting up at the Paracon
A MESSAGE MY MOM -  As I was pulling in the front gate I noticed the first building on the right housed the Paracon, but I heard my mom say "keep going, keep going straight ahead." I wondered why, but didn't question it. In the next building was a dog show! Since I was there promoting my book "Pets and the Afterlife" it was a perfect place to visit... so after I set up my table I walked over to the dog show.
Connie Fleming and one of her agile Shelties

MAKING A DOGGONE GREAT CONNECTION -
That's when I met an amazing dog trainer and dog lover named Connie Fleming.  She was warm, wonderful, and welcoming and saw my badge and said "I think you're looking for the other convention!" - I told her I was in the right place and told her about my book. We talked about her Sheltie dogs, our 3 kids, and her experiences with pets who have communicated from the other side. She told me that some of her dogs posed with Star Trek actors and she loves sci-fi! She took the 2 business cards I had and said she'd display them. How kind!
The next morning I went over early and brought her more business cards and a bunch of promotional post cards, and gave her a free copy of the "Pets" book to say thanks.
AMAZING TURNABOUT - One of the gentleman attending the dog event saw the book on Saturday, walked over to the Paracon to find ME, and bought my book. Wow. He said he and his wife lost a couple of dogs and believe they've received messages. He walked in the 100F heat to get a copy and I was really honored!
The dog show - agility set up!

Inspiration and Spirits at my Inspired Ghost Tracking Talk on 8/1/14

Thanks to Inspired Ghost Tracking of Maryland  for letting me talk about the Pets and the
Margaret of Inspired Ghost introduces Rob
    Afterlife
book. As people who attended could tell, it was a very emotional and special book for me. It was difficult to maintain composure when talking about how I've lost 2 canine kids, although they've both come back with many messages.

There were several times I had to stop and compose myself, and several folks who attended told me they were also brought to tears, but they were happy tears, knowing their pets could communicate with them from beyond.
I hope that everyone learned some things, and walked away with understanding, hope, and comfort.
    Spirit cat resembled this one
SPIRIT ANIMALS AND PEOPLE ABOUND: There was a spirit of a grey, long-haired cat walking around the right side of the room, and I mentioned it during my presentation. Afterward, a married couple came up to me and told me they recently lost a long-haired, gray cat- so their cat wanted to let them know that she's still around them!
    My newest book
ANOTHER CAT SPIRIT! - Another attendee actually brought her service dog, a Labrador Retriever. I sensed the spirit of a white cat with beige patches on it near the men's room door. The woman's lab kept going over the door and afterward, she told me that her dog was bonded to a cat that matched that description, but she had to give the cat up for adoption. It could be that the cat has passed and made an appearance to let her and her dog know she's still around...
There was also the spirit of a dog, that looked like a white dog with black spots- like a beagle or pointer, walking around the back left part of the room. There was a grandmother of one of the attendees standing there in spirit as well, and the spirit of a young girl who died in a car accident. The room was crowded with the living and the dead and with humans, cats and dogs!

    A Sniffing Spirit's Sign!

Today at the Frederick Book Festival I (Rob) met a lot of wonderful people and many had their own stories of spirit encounters.
A woman named Cheryl came to my table (where I was selling my books) and we were talking about my book "Pets and the Afterlife" and dog rescues. - I was also representing DC Area Weimaraner Rescue there (I had the Weim and Book banners displayed).
Cheryl told me that her beloved dog named Oliver had passed. She said that Oliver would always make the stress of the day melt away. She said that whenever she would drive into the garage Oliver would run to the door (inside the house) after hearing the garage. She said she would then see Oliver's nose at the bottom of the door that separated the inside of the house from the garage and she would always hear him sniffing when she would get out of the car.
Now that Oliver had passed, her home felt empty and there was no one there to remove the stress.  One day, however, she had a bad day and came home. She pulled into the garage and got out of the car. She said that she swears she heard Oliver sniffing at the door. She said that she knew that he was in spirit on the other side of the door and she instantly felt better.
I explained that dogs on the other side maintain the habits they had in the physical world and it makes perfect sense that Oliver's spirit would be there, doing what he usually did.

Photos: Greenbelt Pet Expo! /Rescue Event/A Feathery Sign from a Dog

On Saturday afternoon June 7 I joined Shelley of the Dachshund Rescue of North America at the Greenbelt, Maryland First Annual Pet Expo. It was a sunny and warm day, about 85F and there were about 15 vendors at the Greenbelt Dog Park.
Shelley contributed an AMAZING chapter in my new book "Pets in the Afterlife." Shelley's chapter is RESCUED BY A DOG'S GHOST." Her true story happened when she was a girl. Shelley is also a scientist, so we share that in common as well as dog rescue. For more about the book, see below!
    *************************
There were a lot of great vendors at the Pet Expo including a Cocker Spaniel Rescue, a cat rescue, pet sitters, dog trainers, veterinary hospitals, a pet photographer, the SPCA, Greenbelt Animal Shelter and more. I went around and spoke to many of them and told them about my book "Pets in the Afterlife" to help comfort people who lost a pet and understand that signs they're giving to their pet parents from beyond!

DNRA and Rob join forces to promote the rescue and his book
WHAT IS DACHSHUND RESCUE OF NORTH AMERICA? - Dachshund Rescue of North America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with one sole purpose — rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing needy dachshunds and mostly dachshund mixes. We are a network of experienced rescue people with strong representation in the northeast, mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and Southeast. DRNA has a standard placement fee, regardless of the condition in which the dog was received. We are able to accomplish this through the generosity of donations.  AVAILABLE DACHSHUNDS FOR ADOPTION: http://www.drna.org/Dachshunds

Shelley and Luxie (avail. for adoption)
MEET LUXIE THE DACHSHUND- AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION - Luxie loves people and snuggling. She very velcro. She does not like other dogs because she is the Princess of her pack. She is a miniature dachshund who walks well on a leash and is housetrained. Luxie is 6 years old. We will have an update on this delightful little dachshund in the days to come.  She's about 15 pounds and needs to be the only dog in the house.

A FEATHERY SIGN FROM A DOG - I had the good fortune to talk with several folks who had questions and one woman shared a great story about her Labrador Retriever that passed. She noticed that since he passed, she sometimes sees white "feather-like" things when she's thinking of him. Sometimes feathers, sometimes the white dandelion puffs (or fruits as they're called).  The white fuzz is attached to the seed and acts as a parachute, according to Purdue University. / Some dog and people spirits will send feathers, birds, butterflies or other things in nature to let people know they're okay. - This woman's dog also wanted to know that her father (who passed last year) is with her beloved Labrador Retriever!
    A sign from a Labrador!

I participated in the  Bowie Book Expo in Bowie, Maryland today speaking briefly about my book "Pets and the Afterlife." Here are some pictures from the event.
Pets and the Afterlife by Rob Gutro
    Beth Kaufman's great book!
I was joined by my good friend, author and cancer survivor, Beth Kaufman who wrote a book about her journey through cancer and safely past it in "Make Mine a Double... Mastectomy That is." Her book takes the reader through Beth's discovery, treatment, hospitalizations, chemotherapy and recoveries - all the while Beth retains her great sense of humor as the stand up comedienne that she is. Her book is a must read for cancer patients, doctors, nurses, families or friends that know anyone dealing with cancer. Check out her book on Amazon.com at Amazon: E-book or Paperback *both under $10!*

Penny Clover Petersen at her table
I met local author Penny Clover Petersen again (we've both been at all three Bowie Book Expos) and her first mystery novel was published in paperback in 2013. She did a reading from the book and I had to have it!  It's called  Roses and Daisies and Death, Oh My!
I'm looking forward to reading it. Here's a summary from Amazon.com: Nothing ruins a peaceful morning walk like finding a blood-spattered body. And Daisy Greene and Rose Forrest, sisters and co-owners of Champagne Taste, really need a peaceful morning walk. They have enough on their minds already. Christmas is right around the corner, business is brisk, and their little antiques district of Old Towne is being plagued with petty thievery and vandalism. Murder is just not in the game plan.  And if finding bodies lying around walking trails isn't enough to destroy a perfectly good day, Daisy's ex-husband, state trooper Bill Greene, shows up to investigate the murder. Nosy by nature anyway, Daisy takes Bill’s presence as a challenge to find the murderer.

    OTHER AUTHORS
        -  Another author I was impressed with was William Edward Alli. He's a veteran from Korea and didn't tell us about his book but his quest to help erect a glass wall with the names of Korean Vets on the Washington Mall around the current Korean memorial- That sounds like a very worthy idea to me- and a great way to respect the soldiers who died in that war.
Beth (far left) & William (2nd from left) wait to speak

    Beth gives a motivational speech!
William's book is called "Too Young for a Forgettable War: Second Edition."   SUMMARY:  Too Young for a Forgettable War (Second Edition) is a coming-of-age story, in the most dangerous of environments. The author takes readers on a vivid journey to a war–and back. You will follow admittedly naive and immature 18-year-old Bill Alli, as he is forced out of his peaceful civilian life in Michigan, in 1950. Eventually he is taken westward, across the Pacific Ocean, to a war-stricken country known as “Land of the Morning Calm.  This Second Edition of Too Young for a Forgettable War is appearing during the 60th anniversary of the Korean War Cease-Fire. The U.S. and North Korea have not yet reached a peace agreement. Readers may wonder whether Bill Alli has reached a peace agreement with his war experiences. Or is he really writing about an “unforgettable war?”    Check Out William's Book on Amazon: http://tinyurl.com/os6koue

Author Dana King talked about how he grew up in Pennsylvania and created a crime novel
Dana King talks about "Grind Joint"
based in his home state. It really sounds interesting - so check it out. It's called "Grind Joint"   BOOK SUMMARY: Penns River hopes for a Lazarus-like economic resurrection when the Allegheny Casino is built in an abandoned strip mall. What the town gets more closely resembles Frankenstein’s monster. The casino owner wants a cash cow, his partner is laundering money, and Russian mobsters connected to the silent partner want to push what’s left of the Pittsburgh mob out of the picture altogether. This is more than the town is equipped to handle, though it is not without resources of its own, notably two native sons—police detective Ben “Doc” Dougherty, and his cousin, Chicago private investigator Nick Forte—who refuse to allow Penns River to become collateral damage. Children's author dresses up!
In case you're wondering - here's the summary for my new book: PETS AND THE AFTERLIFE by Rob Gutro: The loss of a pet is like the loss of a child to pet owners. The love we share with our pets never dies, and in a new book called "Pets and the Afterlife" by Rob Gutro, the author provides proof that our pets do communicate with us from the other side.    Available in paperback and E-book, on Amazon.com and other outlets at: To order paperback of Kindle- http://tinyurl.com/mqgamq2%20
