Good UK Mystery: Mrs. Jeffries and the One Who Got Away (A Victorian Mystery)

I just finished another book in the "Victorian Mystery" series called "Mrs. Jeffries." This one is called "Mrs. Jeffries and the One Who Got Away," by Emily Brightwell.   I've read about 5 books in the series and if you liked Downton Abbey on PBS television, you may enjoy this series, too. The house staff for Inspector Whitherspoon assists him in solving murders, although they don't let on that he's being fed information they found out. There are several members of the household staff that have regular meetings, led by head housekeeper Mrs. Jeffries, who assigns them investigations whenever she learns of the Inspector's newest case.
This book was interesting, and had some twists and turns, because the victim had a double, and twisted identity. There are quite a few characters in this book, too, so you have to try and remember them. All in all, a good mystery, and I didn't see the perpetrator coming, although there were little, odd hints. Give it a read. - Rob

ABOUT THE BOOK: Normally dead bodies in a graveyard are buried but not this one. When a woman is found strangled in a North London cemetery with an oldnewspaper clipping clutched in her hand, Inspector Witherspoon is surprised to findthat he and the victim have crossed paths before.
Alice Robinson was a respectable widow who ran a quiet Islingtonlodging house. None of her lodgers have any apparentmotive to murder their landlady. But nagging suspicions are lodging in the Inspector s mind only "he" knows that Alice Robinson is not her real name. Now he ll need the help of Mrs. Jeffries to revisit an old case that has haunted him for years and to get the real story."
