Watched Classic Comedy Movie: Big Business

We watched a classic comedy movie this past Friday night- "Big Business" with Bette Midler and

Lily Tomlin. I (Rob) remembered it from the 1988, and decided to buy the dvd on-line. It was well-worth the laughs again!

SUMMARY:  In the 1940s in the small town of Jupiter Hollow, two sets of identical twins are born in the same hospital on the same night. One set to a poor local family and the other to a rich family just passing through. The dizzy nurse on duty accidentally mixes the twins unbeknown to the parents. Our story flashes forward to the 1980s where the mismatched sets of twins are about to cross paths following a big business deal to closedown the Jupiter Hollow factory.

Movie Trailer: Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel Comics' "Captain America: The Winter Soldier "  opens April 4th in theatres and this movie trailer just came out yesterday! I'm basically a DC Comics heroes fan: Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, etc. - but my favorite Marvel hero has always been Captain America. Of course, in the movies, with Chris Evans playing him that makes it all the more appealing. :)
 - Anyway, the Winter Solider in comics lore is supposed to be Cap's former 1940s sidekick, Bucky Barnes who suffered the same fate as the captain- frozen in time and reawakened in the 1960s, but brainwashed to serve Russia. I'm unsure if this Winter Soldier is going to be the same character or not- but one thing that did look good in addition to Chris Evans of course, was the introduction to Cap's newer sidekick (in the 80s) the Falcon.

A Movie Well-worth renting NOW! - Source Code!

We rented the movie "Source Code" from a Redbox last week, not knowing anything about it- other than handsome actor Jake Gyllenhal was in it (that's all we needed). Anyway, it's well-worth watching it. It's an action thriller centered on a soldier who wakes up in the body of an unknown man and discovers he's part of a mission to find the bomber of a Chicago commuter train. 

Saw the Jonah Hex Movie

Today, Tom and I were joined by our friend Jeff and went to see the new DC Comics movie "Jonah Hex." I've loved the character since 1979 when I read the first comic books about him. I thought the movie was GOOD!! I just could've done without the dream sequences and three flashbacks to his origin. Tom and Jeff didn't care for the movie. I don't know why. Tom said it was too violent, but that makes me laugh because he loves the TUDORS on Showtime, to draw and quarter, stab, slice, dice, hang and mutilated people during Henry the VIII's time. Oh, well. I LIKE JONAH HEX!!

Jonah Hex (Josh Brolin) is a scarred drifter and bounty hunter of last resort, a tough and stoic gunslinger who can track down anyone...and anything. He fought for the Confederacy until he learned they fought to keep slavery- then he left the army. He believed that all deserve the same rights, and also believed strongly in ethical treatment of animals. Having survived death, Jonah’s violent history is steeped in myth and legend, and has left him with one foot in the natural world and one on the “other side.” His only human connection is with Lilah (Megan Fox), whose life in a brothel has left her with scars of her own.

Good Movie/Jaw Pain / Sunshine Sunday!

SUNSHINE!! Today really felt like spring was coming! The sun was shining, and we took the dogs on two walks- one over an hour long. It was 55F and beautiful. Tom raked up the backyard (which is now devoid of snow!) and filled up 2 trash bags with broken branches and leaves while Rob worked on a presentation for a talk about his book (More on that another day).
JAW PAIN UPDATE - the oral surgery that I (Rob) had on Tuesday has been waking him every night around 3am when the pain killers wear off. Today, I started stretching out my cheek muscles that are pulled taught because of my TMJ, and it started to reduce the headache. I've been without ibuprofen since 9:30am (for the first time since Tuesday) but will take the big pain killer to sleep tonight. The jaw where the tooth removal and bone implant occurred still hurts like heck.
GOOD MOVIE - We walked the dogs to the library on Saturday and checked out the movie "MOTORCYCLE DIARIES." I had never heard of it- and it was entirely in spanish with English subtitles. It was, however, captivating, and surprising to learn it was a true story! Below is the summary and the movie trailer.
The Motorcycle Diaries (2004) is a biopic about the journey and written memoir of the 23-year-old Ernesto Guevara, who would years later become internationally known as the iconic Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara. The film recounts the 1952 journey, initially by motorcycle, across South America by Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado. As the adventure centered around youthful hedonism unfolds, Guevara discovers himself transformed by his observations of the life of the impoverished indigenous peasantry.

COMING ON DVD: The Trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

WOW! I just read about this cartoon movie- and I can't wait to get it!! Here's the description:
Coming to stores in the spring, the movie is an original story from award-winning animation/comics writer Dwayne McDuffie ("Justice League") rooted in DC Comics' popular canon of "Crisis" stories. Bruce Timm is executive producer. Lauren Montgomery and Sam Liu are co-directors.
In Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths, a "good" Lex Luthor (Chris Noth) arrives from an alternate universe to recruit the Justice League to help save his Earth from the Crime Syndicate, a gang of villainous characters with virtually identical super powers to the Justice League. What ensues is the ultimate battle of good versus evil in a war that threatens both planets and, through a diabolical plan launched by Owlman (James Woods), puts the balance of all existence in peril. Mark Harmon voices Superman, William Baldwin is Batman, Gina Torres plays Super Woman and Bruce Davison voices the President.

The SPIRIT movie coming Christmas Day - Get the Spirit!!

This Will Eisner comic book character from the 1940s and 1950s wasn't one I read, but this movie looks fantastic. The comic has been revived and I can't wait for the movie. Of course, it has a hunky, handsome actor, Gabriel Macht in it, so it makes it all the more enjoyable!
