Rob gets big kisses from 1 of the museum owner's dachshund
Welcome to the second to last blog of our Danube River Viking Cruise. This seems to be the perfect place to begin the wrap up of the trip and one of our favorite places during the vacation - the Dachshund Museum in Passau, Germany! Yesterday we told you about famous Dachshund parents and about the museum. Today, we'll show you some of the Dachshund-style treasures inside, and Rob's surprise. ROB GETS DOGGY KISSES - We spent about an hour in the small Dachshund museum because there were so many things to see that were all Dachshund-related. Wooden and glass figurines, books, records, clothing and really anything you could imagine. It was all there! After Tom managed to peel me (Rob) out of the gift shop part of the museum, we walked around the city. On our way back to meet the tour guide and return to the ship, we walked past the museum again, and outside was one of the museum owners and his 2 famous Dachshunds, Moni and Seppi! Of course, I had to pose for a picture and when I crouched down, Moni, or was it Seppi, couldn't stop kissing me!!! Obviously he knew I'm a Dachshund dad, too!

Welcome to one of the final blogs of our Danube River Viking cruise vacation! We ended this great trip in Passau, Germany and were surprised to find that the Dachshund Museum that I learned about a year before, was located in that city! Since we have a couple of Dachshunds (and a Weimaraner, also German, and a Dachshund-Chihuahua mix) we were so excited to visit the museum. In fact, Tom had to finally walk outside and leave me (Rob) in the museum for at least 30 minutes more.

The world’s first and unique dachshund museum Kleine Residenz (“Small Residence”) is located right across the New Bishop’s Residence. The dachshund – a philosophy – is shown in an exhibition that contains the world’s largest collection of a total of more than 4,500 exhibits.
It was founded by former local florists and Dachshund parents Oliver Storz, and Seppi Küblbeck, with their dachshunds Moni and Little Seppi. No other dog seems to be as world-famous as the dachshund. The 100th anniversary of the Free State of Bavaria, the dachshund in nobility or the dachshund in hunting as well as “Waldi”, the dachshund of the 1972 Olympic Games, are focal points in the museum.

The museum is located in Residence Square, which is no doubt the most beautiful square in the city of Passau. The collection was compiled by the two master florists Seppi Küblbeck and Oliver Storz over the last 25 years and is now shown to the public for the first time. A large number of exhibits are lovingly presented in showcases, with a wink of an eye and a great passion for the dachshund, which represents Bavaria like nobody else. This Museum Dedicated to Dachshunds Just Opened in Germany
The world can be a pretty polarizing place, but if there’s one thing we can all universally agree on it’s that dachshunds — yes, weiner dogs — are amazing and totally deserve their own museum.
Luckily for all of us, Germany was happy to oblige and made all of our hot dog dreams come true.
This week, the new Dackelmuseum (or dachshund museum) opened its doors in the Bavarian city of Passau. Inside, the BBC reported, it’s filled with 4,500 different items celebrating the breed, including toys, icons, canine stamps, artistic prints with sausage dogs as the main character, handmade puppets, and more.
“The world needs a sausage dog museum,” Josef Küblbeck, the museum’s co-founder, told the BBC. “No other dog in the world enjoys the same kind of recognition or popularity as the symbol of Bavaria, the sausage dog.”
Küblbeck told The Times that he and his partner, Oliver Storz, have been collecting dachshund memorabilia for the last two decades in anticipation of opening the museum. When they finally collected enough items, they gave up their day jobs to dedicate their lives to this. Their two dachshunds, Seppi and Moni, are the only live dachshunds on display, The Times reported.
“We wanted to give this dog a home where people can come and share their joy,” Kueblbeck told Reuters. “Its popularity is increasing because the sausage dog, with its so-called sausage dog look, has conquered the hearts of many people.”
It should come as no surprise that the Germans want to celebrate the breed. According to the BBC, Germans started breeding dachshunds way back in the Middle Ages to “flush out badgers and foxes from their burrows, to stop them attacking ducks and hens.” The breed’s passion for hunting became a highly prized trait. It’s no wonder that the Germans have the saying: When the dachshund looks in the mirror, he sees a lion.
