I recently found a graphic novel from 2008 that collected stories about superheroes (DC Comics) battling gorillas. One of the liner notes in the book stated that during the 1960s and 1970s comics readers were fascinated with gorillas, so they wound up appearing in many different comics. This was an enjoyable collection, and has stories that include: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Hawkman, The Flash, Animal Man, Shazam and others. It's a fun read!
