If you missed the January 6th committee's second hearing it was pretty telling about how the Insurrection idea was planted and incited. There are 4 Major Points that were made and they're pretty damning. House Jan. 6 Select Committee postpones third public hearing originally scheduled for today, citing time required for presentation materials; next hearing set for 1 pm ET tomorrow (livestream here). Here's the story:
The House Select Committee panel primarily focused on efforts by former aides and allies of former President Donald Trump, who say they attempted to disprove theories of widespread fraud in the aftermath of the 2020 elections.
Live testimony was provided by former Fox News editor Chris Stirewalt, who helped make an early call on Arizona results during election night, election lawyer Ben Ginsberg, and others. The panel's key witness, former Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, withdrew from the hearing shortly before its start to attend the birth of his child.
Here are some of the highlights from Monday's hearing - from CBS News:
- Top Trump officials told him that his claims of widespread election fraud were wrong.
- Former Fox News political editor says Trump used "red mirage" to justify false election claims.
- $250 million raised by the Trump campaign's "Election Defense Fund" did not fund his campaign lawsuits. A former campaign staffer said, "I don't believe there is actually a fund called the 'Election Defense Fund.'"
- "Intoxicated" Giuliani told Trump he should just declare victory, though others discouraged it.
