The dome of the U.S. Capitol building is being restored for the first time since the 1960s. The Architect of the Capitol put together an animation to show how the scaffolding will go up and come down and a time lapse video of the progress that's already been made INSIDE the dome.
Being an architect, Tom loves this stuff, so we had to share it!
The United States Capitol Dome was constructed more than 150 years ago
and has not undergone a complete restoration since
1959-1960. Age,
weather and elements have created more than 1,000 cracks and
deficiencies in the dome. While the Capitol Dome is undergoing restoration a scaffold system will surround the entire Dome, from the base of the Statue of Freedom down to the Dome Skirt. At night the scaffolding will be lit as work continues. For more info on the U.S. Capitol, visit: http://www.visitthecapitol.gov/
