Tyler learns he's heartworm free! |
TYLER IS HEARTWORM FREE!!
- Tyler came to us through Coast-to-Coast Dachshund Rescue back in December. He was in a shelter in North Carolina, abandoned by his owner because the owner's daughter was abusive- wouldn't let him out, feed him etc.
We never got an age on Tyler (who came with a name that was really dumb, so Tom came up with Tyler), and we don't know when his birthday is, so I opted to make it Nov. 23rd, the same as Tom's birthday. He also knew NO commands and obviously was never walked on a leash, so there's been a lot of training since then (and he's mastered all but the walking without pulling and not barking at other dogs parts).

Tyler did come with something though: Heartworm. Heartworm is a mosquito-borne disease that creates worms in a dog or cat's bloodstream, and they basically become attached to the animal's heart, leading to death if untreated. The treatment is a series of 2 injections, and a waiting period of six months. So, yesterday, August 19th marked six months of treatment, and he went to the vet for the test. What a great relief to hear he's healthy!
If you know anyone that isn't giving their dog heartworm preventative, PLEASE tell them to do so. It's life saving.
SO, HOW IS TYLER CELEBRATING HIS HEALTH? Well, next Tuesday he's getting neutered! Yay! Happy Health, Tyler! We've waited since December to have you neutered... Maybe he won't show are guests so much "love" after next week. :)
