Amazing Deaf Weimaraner Becomes a Dock Diver (Needs your vote!)

Buddy dock diving as Karin coaches
Our friend Karin Bakken manages and runs the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue. Recently, she submitted a story about an incredible Senior, deaf Weimaraner, who came to the rescue abandoned by his family after all that time because he was "ball obsessed.' (Yes, really). The story is below. In addition to submitting his story to a Petco contest, Karin discovered an amazing talent that he has- DOCK DIVING!
His photo was submitted to Smoky Mtn Dock Divers photo contest and this Senior needs your votes:

We've done a couple of transports, including bringing a wonderful Weim to our friends Cathy and Cindy in Philly. One time we transported a Weimaraner to Rhode Island! Rob also donates parts of the sales of his book at Pet Expos to the rescue.

Here's Buddy's story that Karin submitted to the Petco Foundation:

New England Pet Expo: Great Personalities Visited

L to R: Ruthie, Jacquie, Rob
Last weekend I went to the Boston area where I had a booth and talked about my book "Pets and the Afterlife" at the New England Pet Expo in Wilmington, Massachusetts. The day was very busy and I met some great people and dogs and heard some amazing stories. This blog will highlight some of both!

My friend and amazing Medium Ruthie Larkin, also known as the Beantown medium (www.beantownmedium.com) worked the booth with me all day. She is so in tune with spirits and had an amazing time meeting all the folks that came by and their special dogs.

My old friend Jacquie Murphy, radio personality, whom people in the Boston area will know for her work on air doing weather and traffic also came by and spent some time helping out. Jacquie and I were broadcast meteorologists for the same employer many years ago.

A big thanks to Maureen Cappuccino, too, who came with her dog Lily from southern Mass to northern Mass for the expo. Maureen is a personality in her own right, a  mom, a great friend who is like a sister to me, and a dog mom, too!  I also got to meet her friend Kathy with her great dog (she has a Lhasa Apso, just like Maureen)

Some friendly visitors and their awesome dog
Weimaraners have a special place in my heart
WEIMARANER RESCUE - I volunteer with Weimaraner and Dachshund rescues, and I was supposed to represent the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue at the expo, but because of red tape with clearances for out of state rescues, I couldn't do that. I am, however, donating a portion of my book's proceeds to the rescue.
DC Area Weimaraner rescue is located in the Washington, DC Area and always needs foster homes (The rescue pays the vet bills, you cover food and shelter). Contact them at: www.dcweimclub.org/rescue/.
You can also DONATE, too, because there are a LOT of dogs needing rescue

MY DOG BUZZ WYATT- People who have a couple of my books know that my late Weimaraner Buzz Wyatt was the world's best canine communicator from the other side. He INSPIRED me to write my first book "Ghosts and Spirits: Insights from a Medium."  He gave me so many signs that there was no question he has been around me since the minute he crossed over and many years later.

PETER LOVASCO, Host of the Radio Show "Wicked Weather" - The week before the expo, I had the great fortune to talk with Peter and be a guest on his show. We talked about weather and climate change and then talked about the paranormal. Peter is a weatherman forwww.goodmorninggloucester.com. He is a storm chaser, spotter, and does live reports. He is a founder of G.E.T.W.E.T., Gloucester's Enthusiastic Trio Weather Extreme Team.   You can find him at: www.dtmwickedradio.com

Good News! Grayson Gets a Foster Home!

Remember the story we blogged about a week ago about the senior Weimaraner, Grayson, who was thrown out of his home of 12 years by a human dad who didn't want to deal with Grayson's grief over losing his canine companion of 12 years?

Well- there's good news!
Grayson loving his new foster home!

GRAYSON is now in a foster home!  On 3/13/14- Karin Bakken said: Grayson went to be fostered at Juli Rasure's house. Karin said "I gave her 10,000 instructions since Grayson took a few days to get used to things over here (at the rescue)." Karin worries a lot, which makes her the BEST ever person to run the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue.
Karin reported that one hour after Grayson arrived, he was kissing all over Juli's son, and Juli's other dogs think he's great. Not to mention that Grayson even likes Juli's husband! Score!

DC Weimaraner Rescue needs donations to help with all of the medical expenses of all the dogs in foster care. Consider making a donation in memory of a loved one or as a birthday present to help a dog in need.

DC Weim Rescue Event Part 2: GRAYSON'S HEART-WRENCHING STORY

GRAYSON'S HEART-WRENCHING STORY - Grayson is a senior Weimaraner who will be 12 years old in May, 2014. I met him during the DC Area
Senior dog Grayson seeking a forever home
Weimaraner Adoption event on Saturday, March 8 at the Pet Valu in Gambrills, Md. and walked around with him for about 3 hours. He was very gentle, peaceful and kept nuzzling up to me and all of the people he met.
Karin Bakken, the manager and and coordinator for the rescue (who has a network of volunteers including us) managers all the dogs (there are 12 needing permanent homes this week), took Grayson in. She brought him and 2 other weims needing adoption to the event.

Grayson was turned into the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue on Thursday, March 6 and was scared and confused about what had happened.
So, why after 12 years with a family would a married couple give up a dog in a breed that usually only lives to be 14 or 15? In short, cruelty.
Rob and Grayson
Grayson's Plea for Adoption
I learned that Grayson grew up with another dog for his entire life, and the dog recently passed. So, Grayson was grieving, and in his grief I assume he was whining and crying, and vying for attention. I do understand that he started barking, which apparently was just too much for an intolerant, impatient husband in the relationship.
His family has "issues" and he barked the night before he was taken to the DC Area Weimaraner Rescue. Apparently or the husband threatened to take him to him to the shelter, so the wife drove Grayson to the rescue. Tom and I feel that she should've driven the husband to a homeless shelter and kept the dog.  People are idiots.
