Part 2: Funny Headlines!

With all of the bad headlines, I thought I'd take a break from them and do a run of funny headlines. These are all from legitimate newspapers... and you have to wonder how the editors didn't see them! Here's part 2.
 - Good advice from Utah...
and you have to wonder if the editor on the truck accident did wrote that headline on purpose.
  - I don't think I've heard of a deer talked about like this before... and UM, are there any cities out there with sewers that don't smell?

How To Stop Your Anxiety From Screwing Up A Great Relationship

This is an interesting and informative article from the Huff. Post:
How To Stop Your Anxiety From Screwing Up A Great Relationship
Falling in love but worried your anxiety is getting in the way? These therapist-endorsed coping skills can help.

True intimacy is letting someone in and giving them access to parts of yourself that you hide away from the rest of the world.

When you’re dating, anxiety is the ultimate third wheel: You overanalyze everything you say on dates ― that is, the ones you actually go on and don’t cancel at the last minute.
It doesn’t necessarily get easier when you’ve gotten past the dating phase and are ready to get serious: You want to commit, but worry that your anxiety might sabotage an otherwise great relationship.
It doesn’t have to, though. Below, therapists share six ways to keep your anxiety in check during the beginning of a relationship and as it progresses.

1. Practice vulnerability in stages.

True intimacy is letting someone in and giving them access to parts of yourself that you hide away from the rest of the world. When you have anxiety, though, you might worry that exposing the messy, real, complicated side of yourself might make your S.O. like you less.
Don’t fall prey to that kind of thinking: If this person loves you, they’ll love all sides of you.
“Plus, you don’t have to share your deepest, darkest feelings all at once,” said psychologist Stacey Rosenfeld. “Experiment with small ‘exposures,’ exercises where you try out being vulnerable with your partner and, as your confidence builds, work toward increased vulnerability over time. Fears associated with vulnerability should lessen with increased exposure.”

2. Clearly communicate your expectations.

You don’t want to constantly ask your partner for reassurance, but when something is continually bothering you, talk about it.

Anyone who has anxiety has gotten stuck in thought loops: Those unwanted, repetitive thoughts you can’t seem to escape even if you know they’re silly. That kind of thinking is particularly damaging in relationships. For example, maybe your girlfriend doesn’t call you after work a few nights in a row like she usually does. Stuck in a thought loop, you figure she’s bored with you when the truth is that she’s on a project deadline.
You don’t want to constantly ask your partner for reassurance, but when something is continually bothering you, talk about it. Say, “I know you’re busy, but I really look forward to your calls in the evening. When I don’t hear from you, my mind gets stuck in a story that you’re sick of me.”
“The person with the anxious mind ruminates,” said Jenny Yip, a psychologist based in Los Angeles. “Most people with anxiety will ruminate and imagine the worst possible thing happening. Rather than dooming your relationship, clarify and communicate what your expectations are from the start so that your mind doesn’t have to ruminate to the worst possible places.”

3. Separate your “anxious self” from your “true self.”

A wise man on Twitter once said, “Anxiety is literally just conspiracy theories about yourself.” Don’t let that negative self-talk sabotage your relationships. Instead of listening to your anxious inner voice, listen to your true voice, said Jennifer Rollin, a psychotherapist in North Potomac, Maryland.
“Your ‘anxious self’ may tell you things like, ‘If you open up to him about your anxiety and going to therapy, he will leave or think you are unstable,‘” she said. “That’s because you have anxiety, your mind often comes up with a variety of scenarios that often are not true. It can be helpful to practice speaking back from your ‘true self.’”
If your true self is speaking, it will probably say something far more comforting, like: “Going to therapy doesn’t mean you’re crazy, it means you’re taking proactive steps to becoming the best version of yourself.”
“And worst-case scenario, if he does think it makes you crazy, it says a lot about him and nothing about you,” Rollin said. “You deserve to be with someone who doesn’t judge you.”

4. Accept that you can’t control everything your partner does.

"You have to celebrate your partner’s individuality – you aren’t joined at the hip, after all.”

Part of managing your anxiety involves letting go of the need to control things that are utterly out of your hands ― including some of your partner’s more annoying habits. It may annoy you that you lose half of your Sundays with him to the boys every football season, but take it in stride: You can’t allow your anxiety to threaten your S.O’s autonomy in the relationship.
“For those who are anxious, it’s often common to want to control the situation, but you can’t always have it that way,” she said. “You can communicate your wishes, but it doesn’t mean that you have a bad partner if your wishes aren’t met exactly how you imagined. You have to celebrate your partner’s individuality – you aren’t joined at the hip, after all.”

5. Talk about your anxiety and how you tend to express it.

Your anxiety isn’t something you have to combat on your own. Open up to your partner about how your anxiety tends to play out ― maybe you get flushed skin and sweat because of your social anxiety, for instance.
While it’s up to you to learn the best ways to self-soothe, take comfort in knowing that your partner can be an ally who can help you maintain some calm in stressful moments.
“Sometimes, anxiety festers when we’re trying to cover it up, afraid of how others will respond,” Rosenfeld said. “Explain your anxiety to your partner; it will alleviate the additional stress of trying to hide your symptoms. Being honest and upfront about any anxiety or insecurities can sometimes help defuse these situations.”

6. Create some rules of engagement for arguments.

All couples argue, but disagreements and their aftermath can be particularly stressful for people with anxiety, Yip said.
“Let’s say you get into a fight and your partner walks away. That’s annoying for most people, but a person with an anxious mind has a very hard time with the uncertainty of walking away,” she said.
To that end, create some guidelines for arguing that help offset your anxiety. Maybe you have a rule that either of you can table a heated discussion, but only if you return to the conversation within 24 hours.
“As a couple, decide together what your rules are in advance, so that there’s structure and a plan,” Yip said. “This will help those with anxiety know that there’s a next step.”

How the Republicans Voted This Year; READ THIS BEFORE VOTING

Before you VOTE for anyone, I urge you to read the following. This is what the GOP has done in the last two years. If you're unhappy with any one of these outcomes, VOTE DEMOCRAT. If you are happy with all of these outcomes, then you need to re-assess.

WHAT THE GOP DID NOT DO:
The GOP did NOTHING to address the nation’s infrastructure needs, pass the Dream Act, reduce gun violence, address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase the minimum wage, address the soaring price of prescription drugs, lower the cost of health care, strengthen voting rights and curb the power of foreign and corporate wealth in our elections, or challenge the corruption of this administration.

WHAT THEY DID DO (and it wasn't good for the Average American):
1.The GOP voted to gut the Affordable Care Act, which would have caused millions of Americans to lose their preexisting condition health care coverage and millions more to pay more money out-of-pocket for their care.
2.The GOP voted to gut the Dodd-Frank reforms, rolling back essential consumer protections and returning us to the pre-2008 era of Wall Street abuse and recklessness that produced the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
3. The GOP passed their infamous Tax  bill, aptly named “H.R.1” in 2017 because it was a huge gift to the richest 1% of taxpayers and corporations and added more than $1 trillion to the national debt, a deficit-exploding and budget-busting self-inflicted national wound which Republicans now invoke as reason to force massive cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.
4. The GOP then voted, in their Tax bill 2.0, to cement tax breaks for billionaires into law, delivering tens of billions of dollars in permanent tax cuts to the plutocrats while setting the stage for massive cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
5. The GOP voted--without a hearing--to restrict the ways in which women can spend their private health insurance dollars on contraception, and voted repeatedly to restrict and dismantle a woman’s right to choose.
6. The GOP voted--without a hearing--to let states strip public funding from Planned Parenthood and other family-planning providers, making it much harder for millions of Americans to get access to comprehensive health care.
7. GOP Voted--without a hearing--to change the Constitution with a so-called “Balanced Budget Amendment,” which would jeopardize retirement and health benefits for millions of seniors and disabled Americans.
8. Voted to undermine the existing right to overtime pay for overtime work by authorizing employers to substitute comp time for overtime pay, while giving employees no guarantee they can even use their comp time when they need it.
9. GOP voted to override the laws of 50 states by placing a $250,000 cap on damages that victims injured by medical malpractice can recover in court for ongoing pain and suffering, permanent disability and disfigurement, or even wrongful death, and by shortening the time period in which a medical malpractice lawsuit can be brought.
10. The GOP voted to make it harder for Americans to seek justice when they have been harmed by corporate wrongdoers by moving personal injury cases away from state courts and state juries and into the overburdened, inaccessible and costly federal courts, now packed with right-wing judges.
11. The GOP voted to put class action lawsuits in a straitjacket, making it virtually impossible for civil rights, consumer, privacy, and employment lawsuits to proceed.
12. The GOP voted to obliterate the laws of 50 states by granting people who have obtained the right to carry a loaded concealed weapon in the most permissive states in the Union--such as Florida, where more than 1.3 million people now have such licenses--to carry their weapons into any state, including those (like Maryland) where the laws would have stopped them.
13. The GOP voted to impose extreme new requirements under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that would throw more than 2 million Americans in need out of this anti-hunger program.
14. The GOP voted to give unelected commissioners appointed by President Trump sweeping control over America’s regulatory policy, allowing them to prioritize corporate profits over the health and safety of the American public.
15. The GOP voted--without a hearing--to undermine efforts by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) to reduce discriminatory lending practices in the indirect auto lending industry.
16. The GOP voted to weaken the Clean Air Act and give breaks to special interests that pollute our environment with toxic emissions that cause neurological ailments, lung disease, asthma and heart disease among both children and seniors.
17. The GOP voted to allow banks and other lenders to escape reporting requirements designed to detect predatory and discriminatory lending practices.
18. GOP voted--without a hearing--to roll back a rule limiting the dumping of mountaintop mining debris near streams and a rule limiting wasteful venting and flaring of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, in oil and gas operations.
19. The GOP voted--without a hearing--to rescind a rule requiring Alaska to scientifically justify the hunting of certain wildlife and prohibiting inhumane kill methods.

Part 1: Funny Headlines

That must be some locker room
With all of the bad headlines, I thought I'd take a break from them and do a run of funny headlines. These are all from legitimate newspapers... and you have to wonder how the editors didn't see them! Here's part 1.
- The first one is the weirdest baseball practice I've ever heard of! :)

 - Someone in Colorado doesn't know that 25 isn't a teenager!
- and someone else seems to think that dead people talk to the police on occasion... they could, if there was a medium on staff...

Voters with Student Loans: You Need to Know This

Anyone who has had or still has a student loan or anyone planning to get one needs to know this
before you vote this November. The current Administration and Republican party is NOT protecting your interests.
Here's the story from the Associated Press on Aug. 28th, 2018:

STUDENTS LOANS CHIEF QUITS OVER WHITE HOUSE ‘BETRAYAL’

Seth Frotman, the government’s top government official overseeing the $1.5 trillion student loan market, has resigned, citing what he says is the White House’s open hostility toward protecting the nation’s millions of student loan borrowers.

NEW YORK — The top government official overseeing the $1.5 trillion student loan market resigned Monday, citing what he says is the White House’s open hostility toward protecting the nation’s millions of student loan borrowers.

Seth Frotman will be stepping down from his position as student loan ombudsman at the end of the week, according to his resignation letter which was obtained by The Associated Press. He held that position since 2016.
Frotman is the latest high-level departure from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau since Mick Mulvaney, President Donald Trump’s budget director who has been also acting director of the bureau, took over in late November.
Under Mulvaney, the bureau has scaled back its enforcement work and has proposed revising or rescinding all of the rules and regulations it put into place under the Obama administration. Mulvaney downgraded the mission of Frotman’s student loan office and moved it the umbrella of consumer education instead of enforcement.
“The damage you have done to the Bureau betrays these families and sacrifices the financial futures of millions of Americans in communities across the country,” Frotman said.
Congress specifically created the student loan ombudsman office when it created the CFPB. A previous occupant of that position is Rohit Chopra, who is now a commissioner at the Federal Trade Commission.
The position is quite powerful, able to work with the bureau’s enforcement staff to specifically target bad behavior in the student loan market. The office has returned $750 million to harmed student loan borrowers since its creation.
