Heroes of the Week: Nebraska State Patrol Troopers Respond to Hundreds of Weather-Related Roadway Incidents

On March 19th this week, the state of Nebraska was hit by a blizzard. There were many accidents, but the Nebraska State Patrol officers were out in it, and helping stranded motorists.  They are Nebraska's only statewide, full-service law enforcement agency. They are this week's heroes!

Nebraska State Patrol Troopers Respond to Hundreds of Weather-Related Roadway Incidents

Nebraska State Troopers were busy as blizzard conditions moved across much of the state. Troopers responded to approximately 500 weather-related incidents on Wednesday.

From the early morning to the evening hours of Wednesday, troopers performed 448 motorist assists and responded to 27 crashes. Troopers also helped other agencies with 32 responses.

Two troopers’ patrol vehicles were also struck while responding to incidents in the blizzard. One cruiser suffered significant damage and the other suffered minor damage. Neither trooper, nor other drivers, were injured in these incidents.

On the 19th, the Nebraska State Patrol reported, "The snow may be stopping, but the winds are still blowing and many roadways are snowpacked."
