There have been a number of sleep studies that have helped figure out the best way for you to sleep, based on whatever may be troubling you.
Lifehacker UK put together a good graphic that will help.
HERE ARE 4 TIPS FOR AILMENTS
BACK PAIN? Lay on your back or your side with a pillow or two placed to take stress off the lower back. Place a Pillow BETWEEN THE KNEES.
HIP PAIN? (we deal with this) Put a pillow between the knees, and twist your body a little so you're not directly facing one side or laying on your back.
TMJ - Sleep face up! I (Rob) sleep on a soft pillow, and put my head in the middle, so the sides of the pillow come up on each side of my face. Once your TMJ wanes, you can go back to sleeping on your side (or sleep on the side that doesn't hurt the TMJ).
SNORING? Sleep on your side. WHY? Because when you're on your back gravity pushes everything in the airways and makes them smaller. If you have nasal congestion here are 2 TRICKS: 1) Raise your head on a 2nd pillow to help drainage, OR 2) GET NEIL MED NASAL GEL for Dry Noses and spray before you go to bed. OR 3) Get the Nose Strips.
(I like the nasal gel- it's helped a lot!)
