Historic Londontowne, Md.: Part 4: Carpenter's Shop, Tobacco Barn, House

Rob outside the Carpenter's House
This is Part 4 of our blog on historic, abandoned Maryland town called Londontowne. In this blog we'll take you to the reconstructed Carpenter's shop, Tobacco barn and house.
Londontowne was a former colonial seaport founded on the South River in 1683 and abandoned in the 1700s.

CARPENTER'S HOUSE - Of course the carpenter's house was made from wood. :)  It was two stories and the first story was the workshop. The second story was the sleeping quarters. The house layout had 2 peaks. It didn't match the regular house layout.

TOBACCO BARN AND "TIDEWATER TENEMENT" HOUSE - The tobacco barn and house were rebuilt side by side. The barn was a one story building with a peak roof. Inside were rafters from which the tobacco would hang upside down and dry out. The house, made of wood like the one seen in the model from yesterday's blog, was 2 stories although it had just 1 fireplace.
