What is a "Liberal" and a "Conservative"?

In today's volatile political climate, we often hear conservative people saying that "liberals" are
"trash" or horrible people (which could not be farther from the truth). In fact, looking at the actual definitions from dictionary.com, you'll see that liberals welcome everyone, new ideas and want to learn, while conservatives want no progress, do not welcome others, do not favor education or new ideas and want to keep living the same way they had in the past.
  Here are the definitions. Which one would YOU prefer to be known as?
