BE PREPARED: 1 Month of Rain in 2 Days to Soak Philly, Baltimore,
Washington, DC
Between today and Thursday morning (May 1) from
Philadelphia to the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region could receive what amounts
to a month of rain in 2 1/2 days. The National Weather Service forecast for
those cities and the area around them calls for as much as 5 inches of rain in
just over 48 hours.
Average monthly rainfall
is about 4 inches and we may get more than that in 2 days, so expect FLOODING, and
FLASH FLOODING. Flash Flood Watches and
Coastal Flood Advisories and Watches are already in effect.

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?
A CUTOFF LOW PRESSURE AREA (one that is not being pushed) over the
Central Plains today will drift northeastward toward the great lakes Wednesday.
A frontal boundary associated with this system will remain stalled to the south
of the area today and tonight before lifting northward as a warm front Wednesday.
A cold front will move through the area Thursday.
